rick001
Does anyone have any ideas as to why my steering will suddenly become very stiff for 5 seconds then ok? thanks
Ian W
check your power steering fluid level mate, or it could be the belt loses tension temporarily for an as yet undiscovered reason...mine's done this a few times recently.
Ian C
Is it as stiff as it is without power steering? If so, see above post. If not, maybe you have a speed delimiter that's dodgy, and making the sterring tighten up as it thinks it's going faster. -Ian
squiffy
my n/a did this every now and again. levels etc were fine. steering was heavier in general compared to my tt. i think it was my speedo converter that was dodgy.
Chris Wilson
It PROBABLY needs a new pump, the pressure control valves go iffy. I have a rebuilt pump for sale at 130 pounds.

Chris Wilson
BTW, I should make clear this pump is sold on an exchange basis, with a rebuildable pump in return.
Guest V300
Your front harmonic damper outer ring can become unstuck. It could cause this problem at specific rpms which would induce a frequency into the freely rotating outer ring, (it should normally be stuck to the inner pulley with some dense rubber). I replaced my front harmonic damper recently. When it is not working properly the bearings for no#1 rod and no#6 get hammerred by the inherent vibration of an in-line six cylinder. I recently replaced these bearing also!!
BURT
if it were the fluid levels would the handbrake warning light stay on, just like when the brake fluid is too low??
