Can I fit my TSII bonnet myself?

Hi

Right, I'm fairly useless with most things mechanical but how easy is it to fit a TSII style bonnet?

I've seen a couple of threads that discuss problems with the fan shroud but presuming I don't have that problem (touch wood) do you reckon I'll be able to do it?

My car is an NA as it's a daily runner so can't be doing with it out of action for too long...

Any thoughts?

I'm getting my new bomex style front fitted by CC Styling in Peterborough (when it turns up) but they quoted me 'up to £100' to fit the Carbon Bonnet, depending on how awkward it is to fit...

Is it worth the money to save the agro or is it a couple of hours on a sunday morning job?

I don't mind spending time adjusting the mounts etc but if it's a real knightmare I think I might just get them to do it...

Very easy with the Seibon TS II copy although the alignment is the harder part.

Removal of stock bonnet is easy - you can see the bolts on the two hinges on each side, at the back

You need the center latch from the middle of your stock bonnet - I think that's held on by two bolts. You need to stick that on your new bonnet.

You need to remove the front hinges on both sides (Bolted on to inner wing and may have gluey stuff on it that's been painted over) so only the rear ones closest to windscreen remain.

Now fit the TS onto the rear hinges but use washers. This will allow a little movement so you will have to play about to get the alignment correct. Adjust the bonnet stoppers near headlights(screws in and out) to suit.

Disclaimer: I cannot be held responsible if your bonnet flies off whilst driving! lol!

If fitted correctly and you ensure the catches have engaged when you close the bonnet every time then you won't need bonnet pins - lower bonnet by hand then push firmly on area on top of the catch (Catch looks like a little handle) one side at a time and make sure your hear the distinct locking sound.

If in doubt get a bodyshop to fit it with bonnet pins.

I personlly don't use Bonnet Pins and the Seibon TSII bonnet has been tested to 190 MPH without bonnet pins in the U.S.

Find a matey to help!

Paul (Whifbitz) fitted mines for free in about 15-20 mins!)

Edit: The poorer replicas may not have the catches on either side of the center latch so you will have to use Bonnet pins if this is the case

Thanks for the advice guys, I think I'll try it myself... I haven't ordered it yet so I'll ask about the catches.

Just checked on Miami GTs website and the bonet in question is only £589 on there. It's £650 + delivery from Knight-Racer but they're in stock now...

anyone know what the quality is like?

if it's Seibon stuff have a word with Supra Dan who got his today or SupRo if his is Seibon as well.

OK, fitted it last night :)

What an effort, bolting the actual bonnet on was so easy, major problems included removing the washer jets!!! Removing the Fan Shroud and getting the alignment right.

Looks really good considering we did most of it in the dark :) The gaps between the bonnet and the wings are quite wide though! Does anyone know if this can be fixed?

My other question was, is the fan shroud essential? The bonnet wasn't fitting with it on and I ended up having to take it off.

Haven't got pics yet but will post once I've got some :)
