Sony PS3 - Imports blocked

He pointed out that the Japanese or American PS3 models would not play older European-sold software for the first two PlayStations, would not play EU Blu-ray movies or DVDs, and would not be covered by a warranty.

That's not good news.

I can't believe we're expected to wait 4 months before we get them in the EU.

People who are thinking of selling them on. They will be banned instantly on fleabay. Probably better chance in local paper and market etc. Tricky one though if judges ban it here.

What will be a ballpark £ for them?

Ebay banning someone? There is more chance of me marrying the Pope on February 31st than them banning someone who can make them money! :D

On the link above it says they won't play UK DVD's, that isn't necessarily true, the Japanese DVD region is the same as the UK ie. region 2. The only difference is that Japan uses NTSC, where as the UK uses PAL, provided your TV has NTSC capability it should play most UK DVD's.

It's always the same... US and Asia get it first and we're the afterthought... our territory just isn't as big unfortunately :(

Coupled with the fact that Sony admitted they only went into production on PS3 in September. They were in The Reg happily admitting they didn't even have a manufacturer in August.. and the 360 had been out for how long? so no doubt Supply/Demand plays a big part in this....

I think they're being very cocky with the release date, not to mention the price...

I'll be amazed if it's as successful as their previous two consoles.. I think they will learn the sharp end of this game next year..

well, until the new GTA comes out :D

You can always use Dvd Decryptor to remove the region code(And backup you dvd's). And burn onto a normal dvdr.

I might still get one, it will only be time before a chip comes out. There is already a shop in scotland that repairs PS3's. They done a good job with my ps2.

Then again I may wait to see what the games are like and see if it is worth buying.

Why 60 gig harddrive? That's bollox we should get a 300 gig in it!!!

That has really upset me Michael, I was happily soldiering on under the impression that there would be no region limitations, and that our mate Nic would be able to get us all one. but if they are effectively banned in this country and I can't play my back catalogue of PSX and PS2 games I'm going to have to wait til March (assuming it doesn't flop big style)

Plus I would imagine that HM customs and excise will be taking a very active interest in all imports from Japan around about November the 12th ;) don't fancy paying a premium to get one in Japan, and then getting stung for import duty and tax, and then getting my wrists slapped for buying contraband

B*stards every last one of them. I hate the fact that we are always the last to get anything.

I very much doubt this would be a problem ;)
