Angarak
At a guess, have you checked for: :: Knackered suspension (shocks)? :: Loose engine mounts? :: Loose anti-roll bar (not sure if you have one at the front)
Bobbeh
Checked your wheel nuts? Can you feel anything through the steering wheel?
supra_surj
Nothing noticable through the steering. how can i check if the suspension is knackered? the ride does feel quite bumpy but i thought that was due to stiff suspension? vvteye
Hi guys, i need some help. when i touch my brakes i hear a clonk coming from the front.i have had it all checked just to make sure the pads werent loose.im still getting this sound, can anyone help? How weird. I get a clonk from the back! I assumed it was a brake line come loose and on flexing was knocking against the body. I've asked Martin to take a look as the car is just receiving its finishing touches from the rebuild so I'll let you know if they find the reason. supra_surj
Hi mate that would be great. its not affecting my braking but just want to be on the safe side.
vvteye
Hi mate that would be great. its not affecting my braking but just want to be on the safe side. Yeah, same here. No issue apart from sheer annoyance... and just loud enough for me to wind the window down sometimes to check the noise is still there!!!! Completely infuriating in stop and start traffic queues. I recently had new discs and apparently the calipers were seized so they were taken apart and cleaned before putting back together. Probably should have left them seized! supra_surj
I also had new brakes and 1 of the calipers where sticking so got it refurbed. started happening after i changed the pads but cant see anything wrong. i think the suspension may need a check. it is a little squeeky over uneven surfaces. vvteye
Well I can't see whhy minew would be suspension when it clonks at 10mph on a perfectly flat road. My theory is soooo much cheaper to put right! Doesn't happen at standstill though and the car is too low for me to strap my wife underneath to check it out when I am driving! dini_the_owl
Hi, I have had the same problem for a while and havent actually solved it yet,all brakes are ok, i have replaced both motor mounts, shockers and anti roll bar ok??????i can get the clunk start / stopping and sometimes when turning, didnt know whether it might be the control arm bushes, top or bottom?? its really annoying.. vvteye
Perhaps we should all drive in convoy and see if we can get a bit of a garage beat going?
mikeyb10supra
This seems to be a reccuring theme guys on a lot of older cars, and has been brought up a few times....mine does it as well, I think the solution was loose subframe bolts if I remember correcty
supra_surj
Mmm thanks mate. ill get that checked. glad its not just me with the problem. hehe.
Poncho
i had this problem, only when i moved of from standstill, either reverse or forward. turned out to be the pads just moving slightly in the direction of the wheel, because they wernt an "exact" fit it the caliper. supra_surj
even though ive had my pads checked i reckon you may be right. it started ever since i got new pads.
Kranz
Have you got the little pad fitting shims fitted to the corners of the pad? They make the pad a tight fit against the body of the caliper, and without them the pads may slide a couple of millimetres and contact the caliper body. absz
sounds like brake pads to me had the same issue on a gt4 once:) buy a good quality set.
Renar
brake pads would be my first guess aswell, i agree with absxxxx, get a good quality set. You can never spend too much on brakes

Guest dodgy b
hi guys i get the same reverse then go forward pretty sure it will be pad related moving in caliper, just check everything is copaslipped and moves as should be.
_Rob_
As Vaughny said, this solved my clunk when moving slowly forwards. does it now a little when going backwards. good post that..
RedM
I clonk in reverse only.
