Dr_Doom
Hi all I need to get the cambelt changed pretty soon and was wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere local that can do it.. Lucifer @ mkivstore does the whole service for £219 but unfortunately i can't justify driving that far to get it done. He said he'll sell me the parts for £130 (cambelt, tensioner pulley, crank seal) so i'll just need some one to fit it.. I was thinking of getting my local mechanic to do it but is this more of a specialist job? He did a good job fitting my clutch but would he need specific supra related tools to do the cambelt? Cheers Rob P.S... Looking forward to the blackpool meet up!

Guest jinn_faz
Yes I am going back on what I said about giving people a chance but please understand that I must be upset about this situation( an A4 page of an explanation) and would appreciate any advice. I gave my car on the 23rd of May for a head gasket replacement, fuel pump and distributor cap installation and was given a total of £550. I then had a phone call on 25th may saying that the car is ready at 4pm I then asked that I will pick it up on 26th may and was notified that the garage will close at 12pm. I made my way from Salford to the garage and I was there for 10am, to my disappointment the car was not ready the excuse being that hyper sports had just got the car head back from the machining place. So I told them why did hyper sports ring me to say the car was ready, in return hyper sports said “They did not ask me to come to the garage and that I assumed the car was ready for pick up, and normally they are closed on a Saturday but they are working on my car as I require it urgently” to which I replied that “Please don’t rush the job could you please take your time” I was also surprised when I was told that the total for the job was now £680 and in the breakdown of the bill was a price for a cam belt and oil change which was not agreed by me on my first quotation. On questioning the cam belt price and oil change (I had given my own oil, Lucas oil and oil filter which where in the boot of the car) I was told that they cut the old cam belt to take the head off (I only replaced cam belt recently at Protech in Preston (December, that’s just 6 months of wear on belt, I also left the old cam belt in the boot of the car surely hyper sports mechanics could have realised this fact). I was also told that it was good of me to give them more time as they did not have the tools to take off the cam belt / or put one on(I hope they haven’t bold the head off the Crankshaft pulley trying to put on a new cam belt without tools when they where rushing the job) And I do know other methods of putting a timing belt on without the cam pulley tool to adjust the tensioner (bicycle chain method, I have seen this in third world countries such as South Africa and Asia) the cars never run right but its ok in Asia and Africa as long as the customers can get from A to B. I will now get a phone call on the 29th of May letting me know if the car is ready for pick up. My weekend has been ruined and the bank holiday Monday as well. The money was not a big issue and is kind of expected from garages and I know its good to have a new timing belt on but I believe I did not need it and the thought of them bolding the Crankshaft pulley head without the tools doesn’t help. All Parts where supplied except for the cam belt.

Havard
Bloody hell!! I was thinking about using Hyper too as they are only about 3 miles from home. I thought they were meant to be a specialist?? How can they not have the correct tools for the job?? I don't see how someone can jack the price up after the initial quote either!! Solicitors letter from me in the same circumstances!! Would also like to hear the other side of the story too! H.

Guest jinn_faz
Rightly said Pixelfill, I think the price went up because of cam belt and oil change that was not made apparent in the first quote, besides I won’t know until the 29th when I get the car back so it would be inappropriate to say that they are a bad garage (In my opinion). And talking about the tools, when I turned up on the 26th may (Saturday) after leaving the mechanic rang me and said “it would be good that I gave till Tuesday as they could get the right tools for the job”. Which got ME thinking how they where going to do this job on Saturday (if I let them rush it) and I worried about having my crankshaft pulley getting knackered. The whole situation has happened due to miscommunication and you have to remember that I did go there looking at the positive feedback given on this forum so It would be unfair to say that they are not capable of doing a good job. Anyway ill update you when I get the car.
Ian Ian
Sorry if i came across as Harsh before but its just the way they treated Gaz saying it was ready and it clearly wasnt and the resulting messing around ........Im not saying they cant do the job its just a lack of communication from Hyper to as when the car is actually ready seems to be happening again But we would like to hear the other side of the coin as they say Sorry not a rant just my thoughts Cheers Ian

Havard
I'm a tad confused. Why is this posted in the National Events North west section? Dr_Doom
lol ... It was a post i started last October asking if there was anywhere local for a cambelt change... It's been dug up again (no pun intended!) this week as someone recommended hyper sports in Wigan?..
Class One
Just, I dunno, call me a cynic, a thread from the past gets dug up and a n00b comes along with a tale of woe from out of the blue about a trader who rents banner space from the club. I also seem to remember at the time that they rented banner space from us that it was run by the members who really didn't have an exception to it. Whilst I don't have a problem about someone wishing to share their experience, good or bad with a trader on the board or off it, I'm always a tad sceptical about it's source when it arrives from so far out of the leftfield. Guest jinn_faz
[sAD][/sAD] I have not had the car back today 29th may. I thought of putting my problem on the northwest part of the forum so i could get some advice and feedback from people who have used hyper sports. Also i did a search on cam belts and hypersport and i came up with this page i am sorry if i am in the wrong part of the forum, ill try to get it right next time . Pixelfill
Jinn, Usually this would be moved to Supra chat, but as you said it is relevant to the Nort West members. It also means that I can maintain moderator access to this thread, in case the comments get a little out of hand. Otherwise we'd have to rely on the super mods to keep watching. Who have you spoken to at Hyper? What have they told you today? Mike
Guest jinn_faz
OK. The price went up again but i was told why, they needed to install new ignition leads as they where "falling apart". The problem is that i had the leads changed recently "the company name for the leads where blue print" when i had a service done at protech in preston (Oil filter, hks iriduim spark plugs, cam belt and ignition leads). i was told to change the distributor cap and rotor arm hence giving the job to hypersports). I just want the car back now and an excuse i have had is "the car is old and its falling apart". I left the old leads for my car at protech in preston, the old set looked like blackpool lights in the dark so i had them changed to the blue print ones. Is Blue Print a good company and should these leads start to strip after 6 months of use. The cam belt and oil filter where also blue print. At least ive got a new set of ignition leads and a cam belt & i will be asking for the old parts back. Thanks for asking tho( i hope they dont start saying the spark plugs are old and i need new ones)
