Guest timalbert
could someone clear this up.would an n/a supra beat an escort cosworth for top speed only?
supRo
I don't think it will - Similar sort of BHP but cossie is lighter
cookci
not with those wheels on lol
colsoop
I think the escort cossie has a similar top speed to the Na, with the rear wing (escort) without the rear wing i think it is higher.
cookci
weight doesnt have much of an affect on the top speed does it? neither do the wheels really?
Guest timalbert
so what is the top speed of the n/a?
ChrisSZ
I know of a few N/A's that have done around 150 (GPS) :)
Dr_Doom
On paper i'm pretty sure its around 155. Wheels will make a slight difference depending on size of wheel & tyres. I've managed 145 out of mine on a private test road but it took a while to get there. I guess it depends on age & condition of your car. Alex
I'd say 145...(ie 155 on the clock but not true GPS verified.)
Max Headroom
I seem to remember reading somewhere the top speed for the NA was between 145 and 150. To get higher you would need to rev higher.
Tom
Yep around 150 as everyone has said, cossy will prob get there about 20 secs sooner
jaiscossie
i would have said escort cossie, plus hardly any are standard now!
Stu Storm
Both cars are std then it will be very close tbh! It is mainly down to the aerodynamic shape of the supe that benefits it at higher speeds where as the cossie was a bit of a brick! Once you go to stage 1 with the escort (330bhp on greens) then they will kill you as they can then do circa 160+.
Scooby
All you have to remember is the Cossie is a FORD, and the design was based on Mrs Smiths 1.2 escort hence the crap drive quality. The Supra was designed to go fast from day 1. End of problem.
mikeyb10supra
Yes Easy, an extra litre, more torque, more aerodynamic at higher speeds, the cossie will get there a lot quicker though
martin_a
Sure the Escort Cosworth is actually a Sierra Cosworth chassis it only looks a bit like an Escort but has little resemblance to the car it is meant to be based on. Not sure if there is difference in top speed between the big and small turbo models. The rear wing makes tons of drag though and really slows the car a lot. Watched two identical cossies with and without wing set off side by side and the difference was huge. They do weigh so little but on the plus side, it'll probably get to about 120 and break down so beating the AA truck should be easy. m.
