RedM
TBH I lost what little interest I had in Metallica shortly after the Black album but I hear this film is really good. It focuses on the band as they made the St. Anger (anagram for 'really fecking shite') album. Lots of arguing and shouting with some extra arguing and shouting thrown in. Described in the Guardian as "...moving and hilarious. Mostly hilarious."

Steviekid
Metallica were great! Until St. Anger
Charlotte
We have this on dvd. To be frank I've never been a big fan of Metallica's attitude, Lars has definitely got small man syndrome. But this is a really funny film, especially the driving school bit with Kirk.
rik
I missed this on tv tonight, but i've seen it before. Unfortunately it ruined my oppinion of what was once a great band. When me and my mates were all learning to play and forming our first band, Metallica were the greatest band in the world and we wanted to be just like them. That film shows what they have turned into now, a couple of bickering wankers (Hetfield & Ulrich) that hate each other, and are only doing it for either money or contract obligations. Thats why Jason Newstead left, he knew it had run its course. Indeed St.Anger was a pointless colection of unorganised riffs. Never did like Lars Ulrich though, propper hand pump. garetheves
The new album out next year will be awesome. Saw them at Download and they played a new song, very much like the older stuff and have seen an interview with them where even they admit that St Anger was "Different" but it was something they had to "Do" as a band, get it out the system so to speak. Looks like they will be back to their best. Saw Some kind... on DVD a while back its certainly an interesting film, worth the watch if you are a fan. Animal
Yeah that (edit - damn, not that, the first bits). I feel they started to lose it after ...And Justice... There's some good heavy riffs in the black album, but it was never really Metallica after that. Slayer were always better IMO. I've got a vid of Dave Lombardo (Slayer) doin' a drum clinic somewhere and a bod in the audience asks him what he thinks of Lars; Dave just says, "wel, he's an okay guy, but it's terrible when a drummer loses it" HAH! pip pip pip pip pip.......well, that's my 2p worth, g'night. RedM
But this is a really funny film, especially the driving school bit with Kirk. When was that? I've just sat through it all and don't recall that bit. Edit: Just looked it up. It's an extra on the DVD.

Yeah, I think AJFA is the paradigm of that technical riff-o-rama metal. When a ten minute song flies by, you know the band must be doing something right for your attention not to wander. Might go and buy a copy at the weekend.

RedM
Oh. Maybe that was on the extras. See my post again. Just looked it up. I thought I'd fallen asleep or something. Gotta say though. I'm loving Hetfield's modern 50's biker look although it was weird when he came back from rehab.
Nick
I think one of their biggest mistakes was filing a lawsuit against Napster. They alienated one of their major audiences, the disillusioned teenagers f*cked off with anything and everything, especially those in power. St Anger - what a joke. The Black Album had a few great songs, but it's no where near as good as their earlier stuff. I'm keeping an open mind about the new album, but I won't be buying it until I've heard it. No point throwing yet and CD in the bin which I bought on the strength of one song only to find the rest is shit.

Mike
I enjoyed it. The bit with Dave Mustaine was very interesting. How he resisted knocking out that little twat I'll never know... I love Metallica, but I have no time for obnoxious little shits like Lars... he's only a drummer for christ sake!? wanker... I thought James was cool though... even with his 'enlightened' head on
