ChrisSZ
The bait wasn't good enough mate - the 'commando-mate' will already know exactly where the nearest pubs are and even which one has a barmaid who'll put out at closing time:)

dangerous brain
You won't go far wrong with a big ball of strong string, a sheet of 10 foot by 10 foot strong lightweight plastic (one of them cheapy blue tarps) and a buggering big, sharp, but heavy knife. A pair of socks on its own in a sealed freezer bag will be a luxury at night if you get wet feet (ha ha haaa you're in wales in October you'll get wet feet ). I cannot stress the difference comfortable footwear will make to your weekend, don't make the classic mistake of buying spangly new top of the range super hiking boots and then wearing them for the first time on that weekend. Baby wipes are quite hany as splashing around in cold water is a pisser this time of year and smelling like a yeti when you do go to the pub for sunday lunch seriously hampers pulling ability

Baby wipes are a must have. Also some of those silver thermo things they give to runners, you can get them from Millets for about £3.00, they keep you nice and toastie at night. Ermm. Plasters, and a torch (try and make it a rechargeable one to plug into cigarette lighter) and no kitten heels. That should do it.

Kittyclaws
oh and try and keep the weighty stuff near bottom of ruck sack, this will help your back, and keep waterproofs on top so it is easy to get to

Kip
Not read all the way through, but instead of nylon sox, try silk, they don't make your feet sweat so much - when they sweat the skin goes soft and allows the possibility of rubbing, sores and athletes foot. Don't forget to take a good knife - Opinel are good and keep their edge well - plenty of thin layers to wear, again silk is good and a good compass is very important. And don't forget a crisp, new ten pound note - for the pub afterwards!
