Chris Wilson
The LCD (well I THINK it's an LCD screen) on the programmer has gone blank. It's not very old, it merely played up at first and if you rubbed a finger over it it came back on, now it's not doing this. Is there a trick to making LCD displays return, or do I need to spend money ?? Thanks. There's power and evrything to it, it's just the display screen, so I can't see to change times et cetera. JustGav
If you are brave, take it apart, you may find the little foam ribbon that joins the board to the LCD has lost contact.....

RIJ8631
I think most programmers/ timeclocks are usually sealed units. Other than changing the battery backup , or cleaning the contacts of the front to the backplate there normally isnt much else to do than "toss it in the bin". Obviously replacing with the same, means only changing the front rather than messing about with the electrics on backplate. Pete
Mine died and was a complete unit that controlled the timers etc. It was replaced for about £100. Very easy job. (on mine anyway) Last time my boiler went wrong I bought the parts direct from a plumbing supplier - much cheaper.
Chris Wilson
Thanks for the info, I'll have a fiddle at the weekend.
dangerous brain
Are you talking the room thermostat or the digital readout on the actual boiler??? I just bought a room thermostat with all digitalness for £30 and installed it in about 30 minutes yesterday. If its the one on the boiler then thats a bit more complicated = expensive. Chris Wilson
It's the timer for the central heating boiler and hot water, each room has a stat on the rad itself, so it jus switches the boiler on and off and controls the diverter valve. I'll have a fiddle, if it doesn't fix it I'll just buy a similar replacement. Thanks.
