Hi guys my son has a modified Honda civic jordan 185bhp he is 19 years old and been driving for 2 years claim free etc, he cannot get any fully comp insurance on it as its modified and he does not have any no claims as been on my policy to date. Also cannot get insured on a Toyota glanza 1.3 turbo as its import and not on most insurers computers, and also his age again. Tried Adrian flux, etc etc just cannot get insured any suggestions would be welcome. cheers.

Sky? Lancaster? when you say etc. it doesn't really tell us who you've tried.

if 'etc.' means all insurers then the only thing to do is get him an unmodified UK car (which i'm guessing isn't remotely going to resemble a supra or anything with a turbo given his age).

If he's been on your policy youll struggle to find anywhere to insure on imports. the cheapest would be Bell/ elephant/admiral if they insure you at all, they specialise in nil or no claims, i started off with them and they where always the cheapest, i was 22/23 tho.

Try a UK honda integra type r 1.8 dc2 for him on bell, probably come out about 2.5K at a guess! Thats the cheapest quick car i could get insurance on when i had little no claims.

A 19 year old fully comp in a Civic Vti forget it.

I had a Vti 212 bhp :p and I was paying £900 fully comp + Business, at 23 6yrs no claims, no convictions/ points. that was 2 years ago

Every chav out there is buying Civics and then procedding to crash them.

I'd have said try Adrain Flux as they're are pretty good normally for Modded Civics, prehaps Sky. Tesco & CIS are good for younger drivers other than that it's going to be internet searches to find the best deal.

The Pru came up with a good quote but then Flux offered to better it.

Try Privilege. They insured me when I first got the sup at 21 for £1020 fully comp. I know this is like teaching you to suck eggs but...shop around/call everyone.

Buying insurance and the stories surrounding it is always a case of "I pay XX amount blah blah" and then someone turns round and says "Do you really!?! I only pay XX amount" Go on the Civic owners clubs and find that person on there. The forums always have a long insurance thread somewhere :)

Try bell.co.uk. If you can do all of this legally (i.e. don't bend the truth) then do it:

1) Say you keep the car in a garage overnight.

2) Get a good alarm / immobiliser.

3) Put an OLDER female driver (mum, aunty etc) who has a clean license as a NAMED driver on HIS policy.

4) Say you have access to another car (i.e. if he drives his mums car).

5) If he can, limit his annual mileage to less than 10k.

The following adjustments to my policy reduced my quote from £1400 to £680 on my Focus RS (23 y/o male, one years no claims, notts postcode).

Hope that helps!

Mark

Ok cheers guys will try a few more of these, tried sky, adrian flux,bell/elephant/admiral,cis,Quinn, lots of internet sites also, looked at owners forums etc, phoned all i can find in max power, fast car, redline. if civic was standard then he could get insured no problem at all, the trouble with the glanza is noone seems to have that model on their data base only the older starlet up till 95. I know its because the car is modded but he can get insured on a UK spec standard supra for £2100 lol this does make it all a bit crazy the way the insurance game works. Dont you think ?
