michael
Bloody binmen are on strike again! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_yorkshire/8249568.stm Given how many people are out of work at the moment can't they just set all the strikers on fire and replace them with people willing to work for the wage on offer? They reckon it could go on for a few weeks this time, my bin is already pretty full up and it's going to be a lovely warm weekend, if I try and take it to a recycling site they have people blocking the entrances and trying to intimidate people into not going in to get rid of their own waste. Maybe we should take it to their houses instead? The official line is that we just need to keep putting the bin out until someone comes for it or we take it to the recycling place ourselves, there is money to be made here if someone has a trailer and a bit of time on their hands, £4.00 a bin to empty it for people and save them a trip seems reasonable? Anyone fancy it? I've never liked bin men much but now I really dislike them, how much do they get paid anyway? *Goes on strike* Edit: My own strike didn't last long, a quick look at "refuse collection" jobs indicates they get paid between £12k and £25k plus overtime. Guigsy
just to add to the rant. although on a slight tangent... the water company. charge us for water. Then charge us to take it away :S Never quite understood that. Obviously i know it goes to sewage treatment and stuff but its seems a bit stupid to charge us for the stuff we use and the stuff we dont . When i go to tesco i get charged for the stuff i buy. I dont get charged for everything in the shop i didnt buy

Like you say charge per collection, would anyone actually pay at any time other than during a strike?

Like you say charge per collection, would anyone actually pay at any time other than during a strike? I doubt you'd be able to make much of a business out of it really, it's more of a short-term opportunity for someone with nothing better to do. I feel sorry for the bin cleaner people that usually come after the workshy binmen and wash my bin and take it up the drive, they won't be getting the strike pay, they won't be making anything. Mmm... maybe they should empty the bins.
Axle
I find it particularly annoying when they leave their rubbish trail behind them - Perhaps they just have a great sense of humour.
MaveriK
I for one would not want their jobs, the bins all stink to high hell and have a good selection of maggots. Just what you want with a 3yr old running around. And that Jeyes bin cleaner is rubbish although it makes a fair job of killing all the weeds after i have spread it over everything except the blasted bin. Chris and Alana
I was just talking about how much I hate bin men the other day. When I first bought my house I didn’t have a recycle bin (they were small black tubs you fill up with recyclable’s) so I went and bought a clear tub about the same size, put it outside on bin day and they didn’t collect it. 2 weeks later I put it out again and they didn’t collect it. I then rang the council and the lady on the phone said "Did you put it out on the path in clear view?" (Yes I did) "Did they empty your other bin that day?" (yes, they did) "Did you put your recyclables in the black bucket?" (No, I don’t have one so I bought a clear one from tesco and put them in there) "Ah well, they won’t take it if it's not in a black bucket" Well, I laughed a little and asked if she was taking the Mick, to which she replied NO. Well I went a bit off my trolley at that point, I mean we pay to have the bins collected, I went to the bother of buying a box for the recyclable’s and the stupid apes wouldn’t empty the box because it wasn’t black!! C'mon, what a joke. I also asked what am I supposed to do with a month’s worth of recyclable’s. She told me I had to take it to the tip, I said, you have to be joking, I'll just put it in the bin. She replied you can’t, You will be fined if you do that. Then I just hung up before I said things I shouldn’t.
Dave
i hate doing the waste food bin it stinks we have black bags one week and blue bags the next black bags are for anything [non recycleable] blue is for plastic paper .however across the road is a new estate and the bin lorry cant go down there cause the road aint finished so all the residents pile the bags up at the top of the road great if you want to get rid of something cause they cant leave it they dont know who put it there and if someone falls over it they can sue the council ha ha . RedM
I would imagine that you can stick any old stuff in the bin as long as it's in a black bag. I don't think the binmen have yet to bother with examining the contents of bag. Lazy bunch of jobsworths.

The place is out the back of an industrial estate, it has no running water, no toilet and no drains, the council do not remove any waste. So what the hell is the £2500 for ?
