Conrad
Luckily I don't produce a lot of rubbish so my bin still isn't full... That is when that women across the road isn't putting her rubbish in your bin!

Darren-K
We shouldnt blame the binmen, we should blame the local councils and more importantly the government.
Ewen
Crumbs, not good is it. I'm a little bemused.... our guys are friendly, visit once a week for bin bags and once a week for recycling stuff. They will take larger stuff if you ask them nicely and we give them a Christmas bonus, because we think they have earned it. Sounds like its all going to change by what you guys are experiencing. What I will have a moan about is one of our local tips...they have started logging your car details, and woe betide anyone who dares to have more than one trip in the same day. They class excessive household rubbish as commercial rubbish, which is of course, rubbish.
Rob
Oh and they still leave the bins in the middle of the empty driveway so that you have to park in the road, move it and then park up - a bit of common sense would be nice. This is true, they're so quick to complain if the handle's facing the wrong way (in fact they leave the bin full) or if its over 1 metre back from the property edge, yet as you say, they think nothing of bunging it back in your drive way. What exactly was wrong with the old over the shoulder bins that you kept round the back?

Ours used to be exactly like that, until the council clamped down on them and now they have to follow the exact rules. On the plus side the only rule at our local tip, is "No animal carcasses"
marbleapple
I'm threatening to sue my council at the moment (meant to be writing a claim to their insurers rather than posting on the forum) as the bin men, disengaged the wheelie bin's breaks (industrial bin), emptied the wheelie bin but failed to re engage the breaks, resulting in the bin bing blown into the side of my car. This has not only happened once but in fact 3 times in the last 2 months, each time bending my front wheel arch. I'm not a happy bunny. Ian C
Where I am each type of bin is emptied every other week, one week the blue recycle bin, the next week the green "normal rubish" bin. I end up doing dump run's most week's . I could easily stab the ignorant bin men around here, in fact it wasn't that long ago that I almost came to blow's with a couple of the git's. I imagine you could file the binmen nicely into the recycle bin even if it's part full Stu that'd be nice to watch. I've found that you can use binmens' laziness as a weapon against them. They only check the top surface so a nice flat layer of innocent cardboard covers up the glass bottles, used oil filters in carrier bags, and christ knows whatever else I chuck in. Hey - I've got two bins, I use them - sure and you can recycle chicken carcasses, right? If they spot something iffy falling into the back of the truck in a rare moment of observation, well, blimey it'd be hard proving it was from my bin wouldn't it... -Ian
michael
Another letter from the council appeared yesterday - it seems they are on stike again this week but they have also said that the strikes are just on a Thursday, my bin day. How damn rude of them! By all means have your little money related strike stinky bin boy but FFS have some decency while getting the point across, how about Monday one week, Tuesday the next and so on so that service isn't affected too much and so that certain areas aren't alienated while others retain normal service? Prats. The letter kindly gives me the opening times for the local tip though so I guess all is well.
Supragal
I had this happen once, they stuck a shitty sticker on it to tell me I'd been bad. It's so annoying. Even more annoying is that I am now really careful about what I put in either bin.

I would want (but realise it's hopeless) a refund on my ctax.
michael
Sorry, they are not collecting your rubbish at all? I would want (but realise it's hopeless) a refund on my ctax. Nope, no collections at all, just promises that they are trying their best and that if I leave the bin out from 8am > 9:30pm today they might come and take the 3 weeks of rotting horror out of it and leave me with a stinky black plastic shell to fill up again I'm waiting to see how long it lasts but I'm planning to crack open the council tax breakdown and request a refund on the refuse collection part for however many weeks they fail to provide the service paid for. I know they will ignore me or squirm their way out of it but I'll try anyway. Then I'll go back to trying to get them to leave the bin next to the drive again.... the battle never stops. SilverSoop
There was an article about bin men in the paper i read a while back. A bloke stuffed his bin full of rubbish and it was open a certain amount of centimetres and he got a criminal conviction and a fine! How stupid is that?! So i say to everyone, close your bins! If we were all under labour government then our rubbish would be collected every two weeks...i bet this chap's town/city was!

michael
Ah, the bliss about living in a flat and having communal bins I hated that when I had shared bins, someone would always take the p*ss and fill them all or not put the lids down / lock the door etc. Basically I think the issue I have is with humans in general. turbonut
Blimey that's extreme. And you're happy for your supe to live there? Bureaucracy gone mad Your LA website should tell you what you can recycle and your local tip is an option for non recyclable items. You can buy a composter really cheap, put it at the end of the garden and bung in your food waste. One of my mates nr birmingham has to use bin liners as the local council wont supply wheelie bins.....and they wonder why they've an ongoing problem with rats L
michael
I might just wheel the bin to one of the areas that still has collections and then go to try and find it later
michael
Woohoo they came! (and the cleaner people did too). It seems this isn't the case everywhere though, it's on the local news now and the smelly bin men are out protesting in Leeds. Apparently the strike is about equal pay for men and women but rather than giving the women more they are planning to give the chaps less or something, oddness. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/west_yorkshire/7387895.stm
