And another thing....

The bin men have have been on strike for 2 weeks now, no collections at all for the normal wheelie bin which now smells like it's full or corpses. However the scheduled recycling collection (by the same lot) is going ahead as usual, what's that about?

They sent a letter to us all that arrived on the day after the second no show to tell us about the strike - apparently we can start using black bags if we like (at our expense of course) and leave these out next to the bin for the next time they don't show up. Cheers.

Luckily I don't produce a lot of rubbish so my bin still isn't full but I'm regretting throwing away some of the meat and fish when I cleared out the freezer, should I post it to the council offices instead?

(I was going to start a new one but remembered this as being a good bin related rant)

To be fair Michael, that is probably what it's full of. Have you tried a few of these? http://www.thebincompany.com/acatalog/Online_Shop_Food_Waste_Bags_47.html

I get it cleaned by a company that comes round and they spray the inside of it with some kind of stink stopper, it's just the actual stuff in it that pongs when you put more in. I need to cut the grass later so I might pop a layer of cuttings in the top to try and seal it in.

Annoyingly the cleaning people will probably still charge me the usual monthly rate even though they can't do the cleaning. I might write to the council so they can ignore me like they usually do :)

You just need an alternative way to dispose of the bodies I guess then.

Don't you use black bin bags anyway though? You don't just shove your rubbish straight in the bin do you!!!!

Calm down dear :)

I have a kitchen bin with a bag in it, all waste goes into that and then gets put in the wheelie bin. However I do put a few "dry" items into the bin as well as the odd bit of garden waste and other random items.

As I mentioned above I pay for some chaps to clean the bin on a regular basis so it's not some rotten mess in there usually :)

Now Thorins link is quite interesting, as we all have to start buying more and more plastic bags because we're recycling more and the big supermarkets are stopping the supply of free plastic bags, for "green reasons" yet they still stock thousands of the plastic bags that we can pay for.

These will probably be a must-have soon link

But that will add to greenhouse gases and pollute the environment...... I am glad that our bins are emptied every week as ours if full to the brim. I have to out and jump up and down inside it to make room.

If councils keep alienating their "clients" then they will end up with spiteful people just dumping their sh!te anywhere and then the council will have to clean it up.......;)

I've been thinking of getting one for a while now, mainly to get rid of branches and stuff but it would be handy for other things too.

A shredder would be better for your forestry cast-offs although they're more expensive (~£70) unless you're not obsessed with your carbon footprint.

And another thing....

Nearly 18 months later...

:rlol:

Recycling of threads. The Greens will approve.

If the poxy binmen go on strike round here I'll be dumping all my waste on the doorstep of the local KFC. I've had to deal with all the rubbish their fat fossil customers leave in my road for the last 10 years, so they can deal with mine for a while.

unfortunately we are still governed by a Labour Gov. - not for much longer tho!! - and every employee from the char person to the P.M. has an official title which begins with 'Jobsworth' !!! - does that help!!

people under amber valley council only get collections every other week for household rubbish, we dont even get another wheelie bin for garden rubbish etc, all we had was three little plastic boxes for recycling which mine have been used to store supra spares:p

i say b++++++s to recycling and quotes like the above just means your paying for them to get away with it, i nearly ended up fighting with a guy at our local tip for some rubble i wanted to tip, they told me since the waste tip had been privatised they dont want stuff they cant sell on ???????? WTF its a tip, yet i was standing at the side of a 20ft rubble container nearly full of rubble.Best bit was he took the keys to my pug 309 which i was about to scap anyway and i left it with them with the rubble and walked off with my confused dad?

i got a tap on the door later from the local bobby who told me i had to collect it but rubble still went.....!

I'd probably be OK with that if it was the service being offered but when they offer, and I pay towards, a weekly service that's what I expect.

I get a green bin but the only things I'm allowed to put in it are paper, tins and plastic. I have to go to the bottle bank etc if I want to be good and recycle other things (which I do). It generally takes me about 12 weeks to fill that one under normal circumstances but they collect every 4 weeks.

One of my neighbours (the ones I caught putting things into my bin) now have 3 black wheelie bins, one is a double sized one, should they pay 3 times as much for the bin collection portion of their council tax?

I live in Lichfield, apparently the greenest council in the country

We have a normal black wheelie bin emptied every other week, 2 recycling bins alternating with the normal bin and a brown wheelie bin for garden and food waste i think :D.

It seems to be a bit random as to what the recycling bin men will take which is a bit annoying.

They wont start charging by weight as they know it will lead to mass fly tipping which will cost far more money in the long term anyway.

Where I am each type of bin is emptied every other week, one week the blue recycle bin, the next week the green "normal rubish" bin. I end up doing dump run's most week's . I could easily stab the ignorant bin men around here, in fact it wasn't that long ago that I almost came to blow's with a couple of the git's.
