Vaughany Posted April 22, 2004 Share Posted April 22, 2004 Hi everyone I am hoping that someone can inform me to what this is. I will try my best to describe it as best I can. If you standing facing the engine bay, on the right hand side (Passengers side) at the back of the engine bay. There is a black box with 3 hoses coming off it. The box is at the very back of the engine bay passed the Power Steering Tank and Trans Fluid dip sticksituated on the extreme right hand side (As you face the engine bay) What is this and what does it do. Charcoal Cannister. if the noise bugs you, open the petrol cap to release pressure, the noise should go away. i only know this because of this wonderful place. Syed Shah Posted April 23, 2004 Share Posted April 23, 2004 It is there for emmisions to stop fuel vapour from the tank being vented directly to atmosphere. To remove it, unbolt, join the hose attached to the firewall (goes under car to tank), to the one at the bottom of the charcoal canister, which vents them safely under the car. Block the rest. Syed Shah Posted April 23, 2004 Share Posted April 23, 2004 1 = Charcoal canister 2 + 3 = trac pump and actuator, all removable, 12kgs. I am doing this ATM, got some trouble, but will work round it. Take a look at http://www.mkiv.com/tmp/no_trac/no_trac It is for the US cars, which are different, but gives you an idea. Done by Mohd, in his typically brief way. Syed Shah Posted April 23, 2004 Share Posted April 23, 2004 Benefit = Neater engine bay, weight savings at the front. No point it having it, so why not remove it? My trouble is far more lines than there should be, inc the front brakes being routed through it. Supposed to be 4 lines, I have eight!
