Power loss...help!

SUPRA FLY

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

I have an NA auto and over the last couple of days am sure I have expirienced power loss. :(

1) When trying to accelerate the rev goes up rapidly but the speed doesn't.

2) Once the speed picks up the rev drops fast and hence the acceleration drops again.:werd:

It doesn't do it all the time as well..........sometimes its fine....am confused.:conf: My first guess was the gearbox.

Has anyone else had the misfortune to expirience this? Does anyone know whay this is happening. The car is under warranty so am not extremely worried at this point. Any help will be appriciated.

Wait wait wait I know this one......

TC is Torgue Converter I think which is effectively the clutch on a manual....I think

The traction control I think is built in an NA and hence you can't switch it off...:sly:

Am startin to learn a little about these machines man....check me out.:eyebrows:

Slipping auto boxes are BAD BAD news, if it's not already buggered its life will have been dramatically shortened. The clutch and brake bans withing have paper thin linings and the heat of slippage will either de bond them from their backing plates and strips or burn off the material virtually instantly. The detritus gets into the torque convertor and oil cooler. I believe you are looking at a new gearbox and torque convertor and a cooler and line flush. It is impossible to clean out torque convertors without dismantling them. Aisin Warner repair parts are hard to get in the UK, VERY expensive and the box is complex. A secondhand box and convertor would be the cheapest option, but would have to come from a N/A car, the TT is different. It's probably been caused by low fluid level. Check it and top up if required using the CORRECT stuff. Read up up on HOW to dip auto box oils, it's totally unlike the way you dip the engine oil.

ok.

But le spoke to one company who said that if the oil was brown then the GB was shot?

Sounds like a load to BS to me!

All oil goes brown once it has been worked. Thats what its there for!

I need to see this car tonight to see if it is slipping!

It might not be.

Is it possible it could just be the clutch?

:conf:

Can see how it could be a clutch as an auto wont have a clutch!!

:stupid:

A TC (Torque Converter) has the same function as a clutch in an Auto Transmission. Thats why I first said, it sounds like the TC is slipping. Your ATF should be red, or atleast a tinge of it. If its ever gone brown it definitely needs changing. Change this before you do anything else. Driving on bad oil wont help the thing in any way.

I hope its what you say it is. The car is going to Jemca this Friday for inspection and ATF change.

Mr Chris Wilson is saying that if the oil is brown then its more than just a knackered oil....its burnt components in the bear box.....which can cost thousands....serious bummer :( since I've only had the car for 3 weeks or so.

Do you know if the dealer holds any liability? I believe my warranty says that if the defect was present at time of sale then its not covered as they would expect the dealer to have inspected these parts prior. Dealing with dealers and waranty companies is like :banghead:

I'll let yo'll know. In the mean time I think all Auto owners should check their ATF since it can be a very exoensive item.

Time for a built auto :D

Don't try to repair this one, and I would not even bother changing the fluid to try and help, it sounds seriously shot, a used one or a built one is the only way forward.

Not sure if the dealer will help in any way, dpends how good they are. But worth a try. Did they service it before you got it?

Maaaaaaaaaaaaan am not getting any good news at all :( :( :(

What makes you say its seriously shot mate? Hove you experienced somin like this? What is it likely to be? the TC, GB or both?

Yeah it was serviced 2K miles ago and the dealer apparently carriedout a detailed inspection on arrival ofthe car and prior to selling it.
