mathew
a mate of mine staying in rented accomodation for uni had a bit of a party last weekend and someone set of the fire alarm by breaking the glass on one of the red box things. the landlord has now asked for £400 cash to repair it:blink: im no electrician but this seems a bit steep to me. also he has insisted on having his own appointed electrician in to fix it, where does my mate stand with this and how much should she be paying for such a minor repair?? any help would be very welcomed

Supradan
He is taking the piss as its only the glass you have to replace and it takes about 5mins to do.I would refuse to pay unless you use an independant fire alarm specialist.
mathew
a quick update. the landlord now says that something was wedged up against the button which gets pressed to switch off the alarm noise. my friend admits to this as they were trying to get hold of him but he had his phone on silent so they couldnt switch it off apart from wedging something up against the switch. the landlord has then stated that by doing that it has damaged something to do with th epanel inside. Adam
He is taking the piss. All you need is the replacement glass and a small phillips screw driver and do it your self. 1 screw and your done. simple as that.
