Any sci-fi/fantasy books readers on here?

I trying to find a few books that I once spent five minutes reading in Borders. I cannot remember the author, title nor much of the plot for the first book except....

...it is set in an underground city, possibly London and the main character reaches it by climbing down a ladder that goes on for ages. When he thinks he has reached the light at the bottom of the ladder he is in fact at the top of a huge cavern (maybe a dome) and the ladder continues down, through empty space, for many (hundreds?) of feet to the rooftops below. I think he finds this ladder by following/helping a homeless girl. Many seem to think the book is Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere but, TBH, I wouldn't have picked up one of his when browsing.

There is also another fantasy novel that I'm looking for about a seemingly infinitely high and long wall that has a city built on it's side. The plot details what happens when a young boy falls off the edge of his world.

and lastly, I once borrowed a book about a private detective who had drink problems. He did a lot of work for a local priest in helping to find runaways etc. The detective was Jesus Christ returned to Earth. No, really!!!

Any ideas?

I used to read lots of fantasy/sci-fi books, but stooped about seven years ago, still got about a hundred on a shelf! i'm afraid none of those books ring a bell, although the wall one does remind me of a short story about someone stuck on top of one of those really high chimneys, can't remember the outcome but it was very strange:blink: the trouble with reading a lot of sci-fi/fantasy is that in the end they all seem to mingle into one big story, and you have to try and decipher just which book it came from:blink:

All three of these books with the possible exception of the JC one are from recent years. With the forum being down plus me being totally skint I spent several hours looking through sci-fi and fantasy booksites, googlebooks, amazon and more and couldn't find a thing.

Very frustrating.

Tom Requiem from Clive Barker's Infernal Parade figure set by Macfarlane toys.

I'm a bit of a fan of all that stuff and Clive Barker.;)

Ah I see. Looking him up on IMDB I didn't realise just how many Hellraiser films there are now (several straight to video).

Wasn't there a Clive Barker computer game? Vaguely remember playing one. Never read any of his books.

Still looking for this but....

This book is called On, by Adam Roberts. Hoorah.

This one is The Last Days: The Apocryphon of Joe Panther by Andrew Masterson. Hoorah x 2.:D

I've just started reading Singularity Sky by Charles Stross. I'd previously read Accelerando before and enjoyed that... although kept flicking between the book and wikipedia for some of the terms mentioned (dyson sphere's etc.).

Accelerando is a free download here http://www.accelerando.org/

I've also just got Neuromancer as I've never read that.

Ok this isn't sci-fi or indeed fantasy and sorry for the slight hi-jack but can someone help me find a book?

It's set in America (I think) and it's about a girl who is the sole survivour of a nuclear bomb. Or at least she thinks she is until she discovers someone else who is dressed in full fall out gear and she spends a lot of the time being confused who he is and running away from him. I can't remember much else but also there was a film/drama thing adapted from the book.

Any ideas? It's been bothering me for approximately 10 years.

Well I wasn't talking about Neuromancer :)

I've seen part of that film twice but I've no idea what it's called and never read the book...

You're worse than someone that doesn't the answer, giving me false hopes like that. Your mission is to find said film, and take note of the title. :)
