Gripweed
I've just had some 18'' Volk GTN's fitted to the supra with Goodyear F1's 275/35/18 rear and 245/40/18 fronts. I took the wheels and tyres down to my local pro-tyre for fitting and to get the tracking etc done. The drive home has been very strange to say the least! when I go over a bump or especialy a manhole cover the car seems to step out at the back. Bearing in mind that it's quite wet today and i'm running brand new tyres (wider that the ones on my old 17's) is this to be expected? or could it be something a bit more sinister. I've visually inspected the wheels and the passanger rear seems to be 'toed' in quite a bit. Any help/suggestions? Gonna take it back in the morning to see whats going on. Timwildman
Directional tyres? are they fitted the right way round? Millhouse had this problem.
SimonB
Brand new tyres need to be scrubbed in for a bit before they grip properly. They use a compound to get them out of the molds that is a bit slippy. So it could just be that.
Gripweed
Thanks for the replys guys, but the fact that I can see the rear wheel toe in concerns me , maybe something wasn't tightened up properly after the alignment. I'll see what they say tomorrow when it goes back.
Chris Wilson
Lower profile, wider tyres will show up any geometry deficiencies far more than the stock ones, or the geo has been buggered when they "did the toe". The MKIV is very sensitive to rear toe being assymetric or not referenced off the chassis median. Basicaly it needs the geo doing by someone that actually understands what they are doing... It's also possible something is bent.
Gripweed
Well, Just got back from Protyre (Just where I wanna be on a Sat morning after a night on the sauce!) and it turns out that the guy who did the tracking hadn't tightened up the camber and toe bolts on the passanger side rear wheel! Anyway it's sorted now and it drives like it should Chris, Got your email and the week fter the 26th is good for me. I'll give you a shout later on to arrange.
