FaithStalker
How difficult is it to fit retractable side-mirrors to a GZ j-spec? Do i need to buy new mirrors or is everything already there just need the button and the correct electrical leads etc?
Syed Shah
Sort of to do with this: why have the UK cars not got folding mirrors? They are supposed to be the highest spec after all!
Branners
I have never had it confirmed but I believe if you can either have folding mirrors or heated mirrors but not the two together. So if you dont have folding mirrors chances are they are heated, which would make the most sense on a UK car where the weather is always crp. As for fitting them afterwards, Im sure its possible but whether the wires are all there I dont know. JB
Ian C
Um - mine fold in (thankfully, or it would never fit in the garage) and they are heated. J-spec. -Ian
Paul Booth
What do you mean 'fold in'? Manually or electrically?
Syed Shah
It don't count if it does it manually, it is electrically that counts Ian!
FaithStalker
so - should my GZ J-spec 93TT have retractable side-mirrors? (electric - not manual) cos I dont remember seeing any buttons with it on? If they aint electric can it be done manually??? Paul Booth
Ooh! I've never seen that. A gadget I might not have. What does the control look like?
Phil
Big rocker switch on the r/h dash panel I think, folds the mirrors round flush with the windows. Must have been an option even on the GZ because I know of non-GZ cars with it and GZ cars without. Cheers,
Paul Booth
There should be a blank for the switch. I don't have any blanks I don't know about, so, where do I look?
Simon
I suspect that you'll find that the later GZ cars will have this fitted as standard whilst the earlier cars may have had an option for this.
Phil
No, there is no blank. If I remember rightly it's cut into the panel. Cheers,
Guest Ash
It's a different panel but it's virtually impossible to source new in the UK. The UK panel is available but has 3 cut-outs and blanks were made but, again, virtually impossible to source. Probably due to the fact that the UK car utilises all three switch holes. Paul Booth
So by default, do I assume I have heated mirrors? Tim did tell me all the bits on it but who listens on a hot day when all you want him to do is shut up and give you the keys.
Phil
Mine is the same as yours and I've got heated mirrors so I would assume they are standard on GZ Aero's. Cheers,
Flipfinger
My God........my car has that switch, always wondered what it was, was too scared to press it in case it was the ejector seat button. For a NA, mine has got some serious extras on it........reversing beeper thingy, cruise and now this!
Guest Martin F
Be careful, somebody could of re-wired it!!!!!!!
Flipfinger
I'll bear that in mind when I use it the two times it'll be necessary!
Digsy
Mine doesnt have fold-back mirrors. Bugger. Where is the switch for the heated mirrors?
Ian C
Oi, you sarky bunch, of course it's electrically folding on my j-spec. Whadya think I am, some sort of Ford Orion owner?!? Big fat rocker switch on the dash. Extremely useful if your garage entrance is the same width as the car. The heating of the wing mirrors takes place when you switch on the rear window demister. There is no seperate switch. -Ian
Syed Shah
The folding mirrors are a weird option, my wifes NA has them, while the UK cars like mine don't. I would like to see if i could get it fitted to my car, as they are nice, and pretty handy too!

Syed Shah
If u have leather and the auto-spolier, it is a GZ BTW, is it a facelift model?
MONKEYmark
hi how can you tell if it is the face lift model it has dual airbags and 4 spoke steering wheel traction control electric folding mirrors air con i have been told i have the uprated brakes with the supra logo on calipers ? has not got leather cruise control lsd electric front spoiler i miss not having cruise checked my vin plate model is e-jza80 alpv2 engine 2jz gte 2997 colour 199 trim fa20 tran/axel a340e ao2a plant/built a22 96 jap twin turbo auto seems pretty basic but more concerned about speed and looks still dont know what model i have got will be a low down one but its fast
Syed Shah
It ain't a GZ, probably something like an RZ. The GZs hav electric front spoiler, leather and Cruise control. To tell if it is a facelift: On the dash, the last place should hav 3 seperate dials, inc a batt meter, which older cars did not hav. Another simple thing is the indicators. If they are on the side of the front bumper instead of in front of the door, it is a facelift. There are other things aswell, so say if u still don't know.
