TLicense
Lightweight flywheels.... I've been told that the "rattle" I have from my lightweight flywheel, may be reduced by a sprung clutch. True or false? I've tried increasing the revs, but at a 1300 rpm idle the car just sounds like it's racing all the time. Not nice. Other than possibly thicker gearbox oil, and changing back to the stock flywheel, has anybody got any other suggestions? If not I think I'm going to have to change to the stock flywheel. Alex
You should have a sprung hub clutch if you're using a light flywheel. But as you know its been said many a time that there really is no "good" substitute to the stock flywheel.
TLicense
Sprung hub clutch eh? I've got the RPS Street sport clutch, which I take it isn't sprung? I know what your saying about the stock flywheel, dual mass and all, but I do love the response from the lighweight fly-wheel. Alex
I'm sure I too would love the response....however I'd be happier to have it with a matched kit of parts like the Blitz Twin plate with flywheel or of course the rather expensive Tilton
TLicense
Ahhh, OK, so if I went for say the RPS 6 puck sprung hub sport clutch that should sort out my woes?
Alex
I can't guarentee that Sorry
SimonB
I've got a RPS fly and a Southbend kevlar sprung clutch. You still get rattling sometimes, especially when hot. I think the reason for having a sprung one is more to do with reducing the shock to the drive train than rattles. It doesn't bother me. I didn't go for the RPS 6 puck jobbie because the pedal pressure is a fair bit higher I believe, and I drive mine everyday in traffic. I've also heard you get a fair bit a chatter (i.e. some of the pucks grab before the others so you get a judder when engaging it). My Sountbend is a 6 puck too, so you do get this occasionally, but most of the time it's fine, and the pedal pressure is the same as stock (maybe a fraction higher).
