seen on telly tonite a pay as you go insurance scheme norwich union and a few others are offering it .device goes in car sattelite tracker so they know which road your on at what time and bill you accordingly at the end of the month.great saves you cash if you only drive low milage per year.BUT they as know which road your on they also know the speed limit for that road and how fast you take corners so can assess if your a good risk or not .and in the case of an accident this information will be available to the old bill BIG BROTHERS HERE LADS this is the future of driving.

and they will also know when your on a track or going up the strip

The £1 a mile was based on 18 - 23 year olds driving at peak times, the times when most people need to go to work :(

1 penny a mile at off peak times.

I suppose if you are one of the minority of people who work off peak then it might work for you. Although as stated they can see how fast you are going.

What happens if you are over the limit of the road and subsequently have an accident can the insurer refuse to pay out !

Don't think it'll be too many years before these sort of devices are required by law.

They'll get introduced with the idea of providing a simple road toll mechanism.

They'll say that they are used for traffic monitoring.

They'll also get used for speed monitoring.....

10 years tops before we all have to have these, I reckon....

another form of insurance i read about ( not sure if its happening right now)

is that they will be doing special policies for those who dont drive after 11:00 at nite thru to 7:00 in the morning - and some firms are offering like 40% reduction in insurance charges ?

i think the problem would be if you had an accident during them hours.,or got stopped by the police for speeding say.

But don't be fooled that NU's PAYD system will make more money so that they can keep their staff...oh no...we're all re-applying in IT Services this month. Whoopie...

2billion in profit so they pay the Indian's more...

And would it be a bad thing to admit my servers are running the dev environment for PAYSpy? (It's only the website though not black box system)

Hmmm, isn't the average mileage like 10,000 per year? Even an average of 10p a mile would be excessive compared to many people policies.

How many people will take this up, or stick with the companies offering traditional insurance.

Market forces.

Some egghead numpty has come up with a crap idea, and the media have jumped on it. What a waste of headline space.

I would never, ever have a tracking device in my car.

They market it as a way to save you money, but in the end it'll end up costing you and the evidence will be used against you.

This is the future. Why have speed camera's and toll booths when they can just force you to have a device fitted to your car, which you pay for, which monitors where and how you drive and charges you accordingly.

Who's going to be the first person to come up with a piggy back device that sends false information, you'd make a packet....:)

Get one fitted...then take it out yourself and have it "running" on a bench ;)
