JustGav
Sounds gorgeous mate. Who's the lucky lady you'll be sharing it with? hahahah, the same lady that I've been living with for 7 years... She made the mistake of spotting it in the shops, and I've not had it for years, so I figured what the hell, I'll have a go cooking it.. Took ages to persuade her to try squid, now she only eats the tentacles and loves them.

There's nothing else like it in terms of taste and it's by a mile my fave seafood. Mmmmmmmmm........calamari......
JustGav
Sadly, you don't get decent calamari in the UK, the best I've ever had by far was in San Francisco at Fisherman's Wharf.. a little place upstairs... It was at least an inch thick, and absolutely drizzled in garlic... soft, tender and melt in the mouth.... Hell, just makes me want to go back to SF to have more... aido
I tried it once in the local Chinese and it was minging, I nearly threw up there and then, think it's all psychological but it was chewy and gross! Can't you just stick to something basic like a Pot Noodle :o

I had some sensational calamari in Greece last year, tasted so fresh it was almost still squirming Only ever had good stuff once in this country and that was in an Italian in Leeds that charged about £25 for it if I remember correctly - for a small-average size portion! My that was tasty though!

colsoop
Its nice if cooked right, you either have to boil it for an age or quickly flash fry it, anything in between and its like rubber.

Can't you just stick to something basic like a Pot Noodle :o Try it in a nice expensive Italian restaurant. It's true that it wont be as nice as a somewhere like Italy or indeed the US as previously mentioned but it'll be nice if you like that sort of thing. Then again it is a bit of a marmite situation - love/hate.

JustGav
Jees, c'mon dude!! Wheres the masculine side gone? Pie and a pint???? Pie and a pint doesn't get you laid though *grin*... Just kidding... I happen to like cooking and I'm rather good at it, especially italian food, I was taught by a proper (big boned) italian mamma, and she knew how to cook, if only I had half the talent that she had. Cooking can be a masculine thing, you should see me tenderize a steak, I beat the living crap out of it
JustGav
Its nice if cooked right, you either have to boil it for an age or quickly flash fry it, anything in between and its like rubber. Hence the reason I go for both methods... it instantly goes rubbery as soon as it hits the water, so you boil it for about an hour to get it soft and tender again, and then when are ready to eat it, you quickly flash fry it, it comes out lovely and tender ready to be smoothered in garlic. Sam She is a little unsure, but not being allowed to cook at the moment, means I get a little bit of freedom when it comes to meals *grin* I'll have to cook some italian for Greg and yourself and bring it one day, either that or some New Orleans style gumbo. Either that or I'll have a go doing some cooking at the next TF open day. MKIVSupra Cook off here we come...
