Beer Festival

Drink a little water between each sample of beer. You can appreciate the different flavours better that way and you won't get so much overhang the next day if you keep yourself hydrated.

Don't be shy about demanding larger samples of the beers you like - they're used to it. It's not a £50/bottle wine tasting afterall.

Don't touch the cider!

I was waiting for the expert to comment, thanks :D

Haha, you've had bad experience with the Cider?

Are the prices generally decent at these things to try and get you to sample more? or is it like pub prices but with random breweries hitting you for six with their whacky brews?

My current plan: 1/2 pints at a time with water breaks as you suggest.. hope there are enough toilets :D

You might say that

It varies. Some exhibitions you pay a decent price for a ticket and get all free drinks, these are quite rare nowadays I believe. Other's you pay like £6 or £8 and get vouchers for x amount of halfs. Or if it's done like a wine tasting you pay your entrance fee and can have as many free samples as you like but each sample if quite small - like 2 swigs. This is the type I was thinking of when I said about doing your Oliver Twist act.

They're all there to sell you product at the end of the day but usually they're interested in larger orders for later, not just what they can screw out of you on the night.

Have fun!

I went to one a few months ago, we paid £6.00 to get in and that got us the right to mingle with beared 'enthusiasts' and a branded CAMRA 1/2 pint glass to use for the drinking.

200+ beers and a selection of cider on offer, each was purchased using tokens that you bought on the way in at around 80p > £1.20 a go.

I just picked the ones with silly names, others seemed to have their own little systems for choosing - quite an interesting experience, hope you have fun ;)

There is one near to me that i go every day for the full week every year to, its great!

Most often they will colour code the beers according to strength, my advice to you would be to start off on the week as water ones, and sample the flavour, before ending the night on a strong beer to blow your head off!

And book the next day/week off work

Do they drink "beer" that far down south, or did you mean lager? Southern fairies. You should go down there in a flat cap and sample a nice pint of mild :D
Racist.

Actually lots of 'real' beers are made down here. I live within walking distance of the Gales Brewery where they make HSB (Horndean Special Brew), a well known 'proper' bitter.

Not that I would drink it though. In true Southern Homosexual style I can't stand bitter. Gimme a Stella any day.
