Jake
How good is it really? I'm already paying £54 a month to Sky and I'm not keen to give them another £10 but on the other hand I've got this big HDTV that I'm not getting the full benefit of. Decisions decisions.... Is there anyway I can see HDTV on my telly without buy a Sky HD receiver? Just a demo or something, to see what it's like.

Ewen
Have you looked into the BBC HD Preview thingy ? Not sure whats involved though. For what its worth, I got a good demo at the shop I bought my HD ready plasma from...they swapped between terrestrial / Sky / HD signals and I was very impressed. Ewen
Not exactly on topic, but a 360 plugged in through component input and switched to HD output gives a fair impression of how things sharpen up.
Jake
What's a 360?
jamesmark
There was an artical on the BBC website, how during the world cup Sky recieved several complaints about SkyHD. One man in particular was watching the England game and he knew they had scored before it came on to his screen as there is a time delay, he looked back to his set after the screams die down and the goal was just getting scored on his set. However that is just on sport that the time delay would be a pisser on such massive events.
Bobbeh
What's a 360? X-Box 360. HD is massive in the states and this place is only going in the same direction, albeit slowly and the picture quality is amazing.

Yeah but that Michael Owen will complain about anything.

Some of them refuse to watch anything that isn't in HD. I just want to see it for myself before commiting to it
Bobbeh
Trust me, goto Harrods and have a look at some of the tech demos they run there on the 50 and 60 inch screens, even HD on a rear projection looked fantastic when I was around my friends place. Ewen
What's a 360? XBox 360...can output 'HD' signals. Looks like you can buy an XBox 360 bundled with a HD-DVD player from Christmas too.

Tricky-Ricky
Had HD for about three weeks now, not quite as fantastic as i thought but having said that it is pretty good, trouble is that although its HD not all programmes are actually recorded in HD, just upscaled! must admit that some of the BBC HD previews are quite stunning and also a Sky program called sunrise earth, films are pretty good to. Gamer
I also have Sky HD and I like it. It is not as good as my true HD DVD player that I bought from the states , that shows true HD in 1080i format. But Sky HD is still better then regular TV by a long shot. Here is the DVD player in case anyone is interested.... This is the ONLY true HD DVD player out at the moment and 'should' be available in the UK shortly. http://www.elegantaudiovideo.com/product_info.php?products_id=763 Sound and picture quality is outstanding. JohnA
SKY HD? at £300 or whatever they want upfront? I don't think so. I know of several people who are pissed off with the quantity/quality of the content and try to wiggle out of the contract. Maybe if they come up with a free-box offer for Xmas I'd consider it. Then again you need a TV with two HDMI inputs if you want decent DVD performance as well. After a lot of deliberation and research, I've decided to go with the new generation of LCDs, 42" or 46". I expect the 'true' HD panels will be available at decent prices right after the Xmas rush (there are a few out now but cost £2-4K) As for HD material, I wouldn't hold my breath for a couple of years (I'm not a sports fan) A good upscaling DVD player (or direct mapping onto the panel) should do the job in the meantime with SD material. The good'ol'100Hz CRT has served me well for all these years.
