High speed, revs go mad?

I've just been watching the video back of the trip to Nurburgring, and have noticed something really strange on the video.

I'm in auto box 4th gear, doing 166 indicated on the speedo, about 6000rpm, when I was doing this all of a suddent the engine note changed, so I back off thinking that was my limit.

Now I have looked back at the video it shows the revs jumping up to about 7600rpm for no reason. Does anyone know why this happened? I'm likley to be going back to germany again so dont really want to be hurting the engine.

It's almost like the transmission went off line so the engine was at full power, with nothing to do with it. There were no other problems, no funny smells, warnig lights, It drove fine after. All the transmission fluid levels are ok, oil is ok??

Any ideas

Tim

I had it kick down when doing about 140 form 4th to 3rd, but I took it up to 166 steadly, and didn't stab at the throttle.

The funny thing is it didn't seem like the rev limiter. It just went up really high, so I lifted off in responce. Hopefully i'll be able to get the video on the pc so will be able to post it up.

I will speak to pete. As i'm not sure on my speed converter. i'll have to find out what it is first.

I had the same thing happen to me, if you crooz up to 160 its fine and the engine ticks over 6000 RPM ish but when you press hard down it will over rev, if you look under the exelerator pedel in the footwell you will notice a button that gets pressed in if you floor the pedel, I'm not sure but I thing that it put the Overdrive on so that the engine will over rev, "its hard to tell when doing 160 your mind is on other things!!!", If any one can tell me what that button does I would be usefull.......

the button is a kick down. if you press it, the car will try and put the auto box in as low a gear as possible.

was it doing it on the bumby bit if the nurburg or the smooth.because its just a though, but if it was doing it speradicaly it might be wheel lift, i had this on my bike when going for it flat out the rear wheel would lift off over the bumps and it would rev like a mad man.Still you would have to be motoring to do this and I may be talking poo!
