Homer
I'll in Bracknell tomorrow so will have a chat with the telecoms and phones teams at work (Hewlett Packard main office). Sounds like they're treating you fair though, but lack of warning is something thats normal with contracting. I'm 3 weeks away from the current contract end and still no idea if it'll get renewed, might join you and Alex in the Job queue

Pabs
sorry to hear that rosie. Don't know if it helps, but my place has just been (potentially, although almost certain) bought out by Motorola - job cuts imminent. I'm in the situation where i don't know if i stay or get kicked out. However, i'm also hearing rumours of good things, and we are bringing our deskside support back inhouse too. I'm server/telecoms kinda person myself, and i'm always SO VERY busy, so just hope i don't lose my job. Anyway, I find jobsite to be the best BY FAR with regards to jobs around here... good luck in the hunt!

Nick
On contract at the same place for 4 years? Wow ! After a year at Ericsson they start to put pressure on you to go perm... Bad timing though, can be hard finding a contract this close to Christmas sometimes. I always look at http://www.jobserve.com Good luck

Nick
8 Years at HP here 8 years on contract I usually move after a year, often get bored where I am and it's often the only way to get a proper increase in rate.
Supragal
Black Cat- no I'm not gutted. Nick, they aren't allowed to take on any more permies only as backfill. They rarely make contractors permies. I knew that was never on the cards. Problem is that they do treat contractors like permies, which they shouldn't. tbourner
I'm looking for a new job now, can't find anything for me in this area!! As mentioned just look on Jobsite and ARM and places like that. If you've got time and patience for it you could try writing to all the companies that you know of that would require your skills, you'll get 90% wont reply and 5% say no but that 5% may be the one!
