Just tried to jump start it and it didnt work, then I played with the alarm and it just started , on and off again and it worked again OK, but after few times just went dead again:(

I think I got some kind of setting problems with my immobiliser, gotta get the alarm guy to check it .

Well, i did a final check at 9pm and in 9 hours the battery has lost 0.5 volts while disconnected, going from 12.08 to 11.58.

I expect by the morning it will be down in the 10's. I will speak to Exide tomorrow as I guess the battery shouldn't be draining like that.

Jason, did you get that sorted in the end? I've got the same problem at the moment. My battery was checked out and that was fine, but sometimes I've got to try 2 or 3 times before the car starts :(

I talked to a couple of auto electricians and told them the battery was discharging while not connected and they said it had to be the battery - replaced with a new one and its fine - although it is now hooked up to a trickle charge when not in use.

i would recommend taking the battery off the car and monitoring the volts. it was decided that prob the cells warping on cranking then gradually lost the ability to hold charge - but exide never did accept responsibility.

Hope you get sorted.

Check the earthing and clean up the battery terminals. You probably need a new battery.

I tend to agree with you, but then can 2 different people (1 was an Exide dealer and the other was the RAC) both be wrong? Is it worth getting it tested again?

Yes!

In my case about 3 garages and the AA mans super duper bluetooth laptop battery tester were all rubbish.

Most garages have the 'charge' tester which doesn't really test the battery properly. I then had the battery tested with a big massive machine that didn't look like anything that the other garages had. That said immediately the battery is knackered. New Battery cured all my starting problems, especially the ones at winter!

Not being funny, but how much is a new battery? £50? Isn't it worth just getting a new one, and sticking it on anyway? Especially if the battery on the car is old (which it probably is!) If it solves the problem, then job done, if not then at least you know you won't need to replace the battery for a few years, and can then start looking at the alternator....
