Sorry from resurrecting an old thread but I downloaded the zsnes emulator after reading the above and can't get the games to save, specifically The Legend of Zelda which was brill! :D I've tried pressing the shift key (start button) and doing save and quit but when you load the emulator back up it's gone. :(

are you playing it off the hard drive or a cd? as it needs to write a save file in the folder where the emulator is.

have you tried the save state option? i think it's F2 or F3 (one saves it and the other loads it :))

Wondered if that was the problem. The disk doesn't have any installation file to put it on the hard drive, can I just drag it there? Tried the save state but didn't work.

yes you'll have to copy the whole thing to a place on the hard drive, if it was on a cd you'll find it will be set to read only after it has been copied across.

to check this just right click on the folder and go to properties, then you'll see the option for read only, just make sure it's unchecked then it should work :)
