Am I right in thinking the throttle cable on a Tiptronic VVTI is only there for kick-down ? Or is it also for limp-home mode ?

The VVTI is true FBY isnt it ?

I'm being given advice I dont trust. I've searched, but cant find a thread I remember seeing last year.

The bit on the throttle that the cable moves is the APP Actual Pedal Position sensor.

This x-references with the TPS and the two together work out how far the throttle should open...which is done by a gear set under the right hand side black cover.

Interesting. I wondered why the fly by wire system had a cable!

The cable is also the mechanical limp mode safety net...

If your throttle goes into limp mode then the last 15% of throttle travel is a mechanical override and allows you to get to safety. But it is a bit wierd trying to drive slowly and safely with your foot buried to the floor...

:) I'm an expert now....daily practice. Rush hour roundabouts are a challenge though.
