Ewen
Am I right in thinking the throttle cable on a Tiptronic VVTI is only there for kick-down ? Or is it also for limp-home mode ? The VVTI is true FBY isnt it ? I'm being given advice I dont trust. I've searched, but cant find a thread I remember seeing last year.

Ewen
Its used as a reference point by the electronic throttle. So, although the cable moves with the throttle, the actual throttle setting information from the pedal is electronic ? If so, my new found friend isnt an 'expert'. Alex
The bit on the throttle that the cable moves is the APP Actual Pedal Position sensor. This x-references with the TPS and the two together work out how far the throttle should open...which is done by a gear set under the right hand side black cover. Guest Terry S
as Alex says it has 2 TPS that cross reference Ewen.

Pete
Interesting. I wondered why the fly by wire system had a cable!
Alex
Interesting. I wondered why the fly by wire system had a cable! The cable is also the mechanical limp mode safety net... If your throttle goes into limp mode then the last 15% of throttle travel is a mechanical override and allows you to get to safety. But it is a bit wierd trying to drive slowly and safely with your foot buried to the floor...
