Jezz
Is there any way to check wether a diff is an LSD or not with the diff out of the car? Say for arguments sake the vin tag is unavailable.
wkdtime
Jack the car on one side only so you have one of the rear wheels off the ground and the other still on the ground, with the hand brake down, the wheel off the ground should not be free to rotate. Jezz
Were any of the toyota items torque sensitive? (locks under force)
supra matt
there a wet lsd so lock more under force . but when jacked up and the wheel turned both should go the same way. as on my old nissan 200 sx s14 . dose your vin show the car fitted with one as standard mate? Jezz
So how come my 6 speed lsd acts like an open diff when turned by hand, (and my old auto lsd) but then acts like an lsd on the road. I leave a lovely long number 11 if i spin up?

Thorin
So how come my 6 speed lsd acts like an open diff when turned by hand, (and my old auto lsd) I believe the Torsen diff acts like an open diff when no resistance is applied to the wheels (i.e. turning one rear wheel, the other turns in the opposite direction). Hence TORque SENsing. Can anyone confirm, I'm not 100% on that.

You are right sir. http://www.torsen.com/products/products.htm So i guess the ones that are locked when rotated by hand are the torsen T-2, and the ones that are locked under torque are the earlier T-1's. Homer
Good info guys. Looks like my diff is buggered! It was up on a lift the other day, one wheel could be turned but the other wheel didn't move at all.
flukey-lukey
I was under the impression all GZ models had LSD's? Mine only rips up one wheel most of the time (i think). Would having bigger wheels affect this? (19's)

Would having bigger wheels affect this? (19's) I had 19x10 when my car was an auto, and it still spun up both wheels. Now on 19x13 and the same car is manual with the manual diff, and still spins up both. I also think Gz's came with lsd but not 100% certain. flukey-lukey
hmmm, I once did a doughnut and my friend said only one wheel spun up most of the time. I have a GZ, but maybe somewhere along its 12 years of life the LSD got swapped for an open one?? OR, would a knackered LSD act like this? Spin them up for a second then take your foot off the brake. Observe the number on the road. 1=open diff (or fahooked lsd) 11= good lsd.
