kornboy119
Hello, I have found a FOG light conversion manual from this forum. It is the one which converts two of the rear fog lights to light up as fog lights. Will this allow the MOT to pass, as there are two lights used for the fog lights and also as there are no indications of the fog lights being on, on the dash board? This is what the lights look like when the fog lights are on.
RobSheffield
Yes it will, i have the same conversion They may be confused if the brakes are on when they flick the switch (they were at the garage i went to, but then they were thick)
JamesG
It would be a shame to lose a couple of brake lights. Having five brake lights is cool The conversion in my car makes one of the existing brake lights glow brighter. For the indication, you just need a rocker switch with a light in it. SteveR
Strictly speaking it shuld fail the MoT, as the distance between the 'fog' lights and the brake lights isn't enough. if you look at UK cars you'll notice that the lights are in a different order to accomodate UK law. Anyway, I did it and took it to get MoT'd and the tester knew the score but he said his eyes were dodgy and it passed You MUST have an indicator of some description that the fog lights are on (when they are!) - simply buy a rocker switch that glows when it's 'on' - that's what I did - job done. kornboy119
well would most MOT garages fail the test or would then leave it as it is.
SteveR
Find one and ask them before you put it through the test, I did. Lots of people have this mod, IMHO it's the only option - cutting a hole in the bumper or having a 'dangly' fog light looks nasty/cheap to me. Pixelfill
This fog conversion won't fail the MOT for the fact it has 2 fog lights, The UK spec Supra has 2 fog lights, as have a number of other cars, the MkIV escort to name but one. As has been mentioned technically it could fail on the fact that the fog light isn't far enough away from the brake lights, but the Reverse light mod would suffer the same problem. The Fog lights work as fogs when the fog light is on, and as brake lights when it ishn't so you won't lose 2 brake lights . I have an LED wired into the fog circuit, but as mentioned you can get illuminated switches. The big thing to point out is that if the tester has his foot on the brakes (and it seems that most do when the fog light is switched on, then he won't notice the fog light come on - I found my tester was happy when I told him "to lift his foot off the brake" that the fogs remained on. One point to note is that unless you fit the resistors in the circuit, the bulb fail light will come on if the brakes are depressed with the fogs on, THIS IS A FAIL. I never had any problems with my MOT, but I left it so I could revert back to caravan-o-fog if needed. Mike

Although they didn't notice this on mine (I left the conversion to the last minute and couldn't get the resistors in time) and it passed
ward1955
I had mine done too, just fitted a small illuminated switch which I tuck away for the other 363 days of the year. The bulb failure system has to be bypassed though. It flew through the MOT,.... Bad news is my LED brake light has half the LED's out. I've disconnected it because none is better than only half working. can anyone help with a replacement unit?

SteveR
Btw a fog light has to be on the right side or offside of the car just somthing to keep in mind IF you're only having one fog light - both sides is ok too.
