Thorin
Aparently if you buy smuggled cigarettes you're promoting drug dealing as the people bringing them in will then obviously then move on to importing crack cocaine and heroin. Smuggled cigarettes are also made from the bits swept up from the floor that don't go into UK cigarettes and quite possibly contain fertiliser as they don't bother being too careful when harvesting the tobacco. They might also have dangerously high nicotine and other harmful chemicals in them. All that's according to a news article I've just seen on the telly. ...or it could just be a load of old bollocks and it's just that the government can't tax you for them. Call me a sceptic if you will Not that I smoke or approve of smoking, but I'm not bothered by it and if people want to do so that's fine by me. I just recognise a bollocks government spin scare story when I see one.

Reminds me of when i was pulled and fined (+producer) for not having a front number plate, copper gave the excuse that if i was the witness to a crime then they couldn't trace my car. Nothing to do with speed cameras apparently...
Jake
So whats classified as smugling? How much can you bring in legally?Depends where you're bringing it in from. From inside the EU you can bring as much as you like if it's for personal use. From outside the EU I think it's 200 smokes per person. paul ashton
I used to drive to Belgium and back every 2 weeks(750 miles round trip)in a van to get baccy, fags and booze until about 6 years ago.At the time customs had a guideline of 400 cigs per person, anything over that and if you were unlucky enough to get stopped they could question you for about 2 hours.Nowadays its 16 cartons or 3200 before you have to have a good explanation. You're allowed to have a few more if you have a good reason but they have to be a gift and you're not allowed to accept money for them. Max Headroom
Apparently if you buy ciggies from a smuggler, you are taking money from schools and hospitals....... And going by the fact we have third rate NHS and schools, all you smokers are to blame!!
Thorin
all you smokers are to blame!! Only the one's that buy smuggled cigarettes, the rest are actually helping the NHS and schools... oh except they're more likely to have to use the NHS so they're not really... hmmm, probably best just buying smuggled cigarettes then. I was shocked to find out that my mate who does a few DVD's a week is ACTUALLY in the taliban (according to something that wa on at the start of a film once) I love that advert. I'm sure Bin Laden sits in his cave thinking "hmmm.... now I can either pay for my army using the billions in oil profits that my family and fellow Saudis have made..... or I can sell a few dodgy copies of Superman down' market..... well then, where's my DVD-R?"
