Darren-K
Oh name calling, the safe haven of the ignorant. More people are killed by horses than dogs. 3500 people are killed on our roads- lets ban cars too! give me 1 reason why you feel the need to have a big dog or a traditional hunting or fighting dog in your household ? just 1 ? you cant cos there arent any - cars are neccesary. supraaaaaaaaaa
thats like saying a physcopath isnt to blame for killing people !,. its in there genes. no its not at all, its not the dogs fault that some yob buys them as they help with the hardman immage and dont get cared for properlly, and then end up turning on someone as they have been abused !!! dazla
you could argue all day about both sides. it all depends on what the situation is at the time. although i think the majority of times its when the dog has been kicked or pravoked. you would kick off if someone gave you a kick. its just natural. i hate the chavs who walk about with there staffs thinking they are hard as nails. them kind of people want the dogs to be hard and force them to be nasty. its a real shame on the dog. matt k
is it ?, see how you feel if your babies face was chewed off - idiot. You would still have to blame the owner as it would be one of one Million dogs from that particular breed. I think that if you have no experience of owning a Staffy, Rottweiller, Akita, GSD etc, then you shouldn't comment as it will just enfuriate owners that you believe them all to be "The Devil". matt k
there is still no reason to own that type of animal., why own that particular type of animal ? why not a pomeranion ? I rescued my Staffy from an abusive home, they used to beat him and make him fight other dogs and only let him go because i gave them some money beacuse they were skint, he's never really got over the fighting and will not tolerate other confrontational dogs, but has never even attempted to attack a human being (from my 3 year old nephew- my mother who is 67) he craves attention and loves to play, but you would probably say he is just an accident waiting to happen. Darren-K
okay why own a supra when you could own a fiesta then !!! cos its an attractive and aesthetically pleasing car, and i need a car for work - however with me behind the wheel its predictable,. and dont point the car at kids or people in the street.. where-as a dog thats bred for hunting or fighting has emotions , and them emotions can be unpredictable. the car argument doesnt cut it as its a controlled vehicle - dogs are not. Muffleman
Okay, I'm gonna throw in my 2p here, sorry it's a bit long. First off, I am a doggy person - always had dogs when growing up and the family's preferred dog was the gsd, I love them. A few years ago, my wife and I decided to get a dog for us, we then bought a dog book and read up on loads of breeds, deciding which was right for us and the dog. A gsd wasn't right as our garden\house weren't big enough. We put a short list together and then visited a breed club member of every breed to see the dogs first hand and make an informed decision. Over thinking it ? No, a dog lives for 10-15 years and it's a commitment. We settled on the Basenji, a small african barkless hound. We met with a couple in their home who had 6 of them, all living happily together. So we decided to find one and we eventually got a puppy bred from english and irish champions of impecable breeding and history. We could have done no more to ensure we got a sound animal. He went to puppy training as early as possible and responded well. He was trained, and gave us no bother. When he was a year or so, he started to test his boundaries within the 'pack', so we read up on this, saw a behaviourist and trained him to be a member of our pack, with my wife and I being alpha leaders. However, he would still occasionally be aggressive and would seem a little jekyll and hyde like, complete pussy cat and then a growling tyrant. There was no doubt I was alpha leader, but he would still try it on. Long story shortened, we tried more training, more behaviourists, plenty of walks etc etc, read books, did regular training at home - I am satisfied I did all I could. Then we had a baby, this was bad news. The dog would not accept this and we had a few scarey moments, growling by the cot etc. cont.... Muffleman
So I sent him to a police dog trainer of over 20years, extremely successful and not cheap ! He trained my dog one-on-one for 8weeks, and then for a further 6weeks at weekends with me. This dog would walk to heel off the lead, sit, down, stay, beg, stop in his tracks when running, he was a perfectly behaved and trained dog, I know cos I spent years doing it. However, he would still get that 'look in his eye', and if you're a dog owner, you know what I mean. After all my efforts, I had to give in and rehome him, the hardest thing I have ever done and I don't mind letting on that I'm welling up as I type. 28th December last year, we had a house fire, I lost my entire house contents and two cats - didn't shed a tear. Hand my dog over ? Cried like a baby. I have had to accept a few things. A dog IS a loaded gun, regardless of training. They ARE animals with instincts. I wonder if there was something mentally wrong with my dog, I don't know. But I love dogs and I have to accept that they ARE a risk. Still miss ya mate. http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/8582/supra008smalleq9.jpg
