Guest chiefvinso
My bro has my CelicaGT4 and its regisetered as a 94 L. He has a private plate M** KEJ and has been told by the authorities that deal with it that he cant put it on his car as it would make his car seem newer than what it is?? Is this right? I am sure that you could get a 94 M plate car anyhow. Arent private plates supposed to be your way of making the car unique if thats your cup of tea? Its not as though its changing the registration doc details regarding year of manufacture. Anyone know if there are restrictions or where to find guidelines. Ian W
afraid they're correct mate. you can only put an L or 'older' on a 94 car if my memory serves correct.
Guest chiefvinso
But thats stupid isnt it? I'll ask my bro to change his name to Like. Dont see th point of private plates if this is really true, cant see the logic of a private plate making a car seem newer when most peeps are likely to take their private plates with them. Gaz6002
It's so you can't make your car look younger than it is. Bloody stupid but unfortunately a law
Guest chiefvinso
Very stupid as you can purchase a 94 M plate vehicle - I think!!
Jake
94M plate cars are late 94 and putting a late 94 plate on an early 94 car would still be making it look newer than it really is.
Guest chiefvinso
I undestad that but what is the point of having a private plate.
Jake
It's to make your old car look newer to people who don't know about cars, isn't it?
Robbo
They are correct unfortunately, i tried to put a S plate on my N reg Soop and you cant. You cant make the car look younger than what it is.
Guest chiefvinso
You can normally tell a private plate though. Maybe the plate my bro has was a legitimate normal plate. I dont know, not one for private plates anyhow plus the car was probably the the first of the production line and had been standing so its actualy older than its L plate!! Conrad
I dunno, I think this is a fair rule. I know what you're saying but by putting that plate on his car your bro makes it looks newer than it is - and worth more for that matter. I know it's still a 94 but an M reg is worth more the an L. If it weren't for this rule everybody would be driving round with a 56 plate on their car
Harps
Funnily enough, I've just literally bought a new plate no. from DVLA. They did specifically ask what age the car was and said it had to be the same year or older. Just gone for L999 SUP meself Just hope noone thinks I work for the plod

Crap rule cos it doesnt a plate doesnt make your car seem newer, whats next you cant polish and clean your car cos it has to deteriorate according to age lol
zap
If it's a 94 or a 93 L reg thats the latest reg number you can have, you can have anything older, options are plate on retention, newer car, different plate.
