D8MOA
well my car over heats, ive only had it on the road 2 days! i found the rad cap had a bit missing so i replased it 2day, but still no joy! after i gave it a good ragging today i got out and heard it boiling! so lifted the bonnet and it was boiling from the expanction tank, there is no reason why i should expact a headgasket gone! there wasnt water overflowing? could i suspect the thermostat? the top rad hose was bloody hard as well

Nic
Check the seal on the rad cap is seated properly, there could be a build up of crud underneath, ie corrosion and residue from rad oerheating. If there is, clean both the seal and the sealing surface on the rad, so they provided a good seal. Also make sure the seal in the cap is actually fitting he rad correctly. It took me a time to find a rad cap that would correctly fit my Fluidyne, I fitted an ARC rad cap in the end, not had a problem since. Nic
I use ARC 1.3kgf/cm2 on my Fluidyne. On a stock TT radiator I would use 16401-SP030 TRD Radiator Cap which is also 1.3kgf/cm2. I can supply a new one for £18.50 inclding postage if you ned one. Postage would take 5-7 days.

Nic
cool thanks i will order a brand new 1 tommrow just to make sure i have the right 1 Is yours a stock radiator Damo? If so the above TRD part number is the one you'll need. If you would like to order my pay pal account is [email protected], I would need you to add 4% (£0.74) to the total to cover the pay pal transfer fee. If you make the transfer please can you include a note of your forum user name and list of parts ordered for my reference. cheers
D8MOA
bit of a silly Q! if i have a 1.1 bar on there but need a 1.3 surley it will take longer to break off and cause it to overheat quicker?
Nic
bit of a silly Q! if i have a 1.1 bar on there but need a 1.3 surley it will take longer to break off and cause it to overheat quicker? The rad cap holds in the pressure of the cooling system, it relies on this pressure in the system to raise the temp that the water will boil at. The sprung valve in the rad cap releases at a given pressure ie. 1.1kg or 1.3kg. If the system is pressurissed to such an amount, the 1.1kg rad cap with start to leak first, de-pressurising the system and allowing the water to boil and the system to overheat. The 1.3kg holds more pressure before leaking. So if properly sealed and with the fluid topped up, it help raise the boil point of the water, preveting the system from boiling and overheating.
