MrRalphMan
Guys, About time I get myself a working camcorder. Now the little one's 18 months I think we've missed enough of his growing up for now and I need something to bore the pants off the rest of the family with. I'm looking at getting one of the Sony HDD cameras, but am unsure which to get. DCR-SR90E - Seems to be the better choice, but most expensive at £620ish (Comet). Does anyone know about the DCR-SR70 at all? These are £200 cheaper on Ebay (I know, i know!!), but cannot seem to find a review any where on how good they are. Don't need a HD 'corder yet, but if anyone has any other views, I'd be happy to ignore.. er I mean listen to them.. Paul.
Jake
Don't rush into getting to Camcorder mate, you'll probably never use it after the first week. Getting DV off a CamCorder is such a pain in the arse at the moment most folks get bored of it real quick. I know I did. I've got hours of footage I've never seen since it was recorded. Borrow a cam of one of your mates (most guys have one they never use) or buy a cheapo one to play about with (eg a JVC for like £250) - unless you have more money than you know what to do with of course- oddly, most Supra owners don't
MrRalphMan
Cheers for replying dude.. With the little one growing up fast and the third on the way, we do want to record what they are doing. That's why I want the HDD models, no need to capture, just copy the files across onto the HD. Then edit the chaff out and straight onto DVD. I had to set up a DV camera for a family member and hated the fact it was still capturing the movie from the camera. Jake
So these HDD ones you mentioned (of which I've never heard before, but I don't follow these things) record straight to their own hard disk (IDE?) and can be transferred to PC at fast-rate? If so, I might get interested in camcorders again! (Sorry if I've hi-jacked you thread mate)
MrRalphMan
No probs dude.. Yeah they have a Harddrive (Don't know the format, but not IDE as they are quite small). Connect via USB2.0 and copy the mpeg2 files across to your HD. Sony currently have two out in the uk. DCR-SR90E (This has a slightly bigger CCD 1/3") DCR-SR30E (Has a 1/6" CCD) Means the 90 has the upper hand in low light recording. Both have 30GB drives, good for 7 hours of HQ (DVD) quality recording. SR30E SR90E
