Jake, my stock BOV has been dealing with 1.3 to 1.4 (and sometimes a bit higher) bar of boost all it's life and it's peachy. Get another stock one.

Yep, If it's good enough for you . . .

As posted above, a broken BOV will not make the car any different to drive, but it WILL wear your turbos out quicker :/

Hi from the new guy btw ;)

And just where did we get this theory from? :)

If the BOV is broken, i.e. not sealing at all, you won't see much (any) boost. That would certainly make my car different to drive :D

I suppose it depends how its broken ;)

Not opening = still creating boost.

Not closing = nil to very little boost.

Ill wake up before posting next time :o

That's the one Jake, as I say that SAAB bov was often used by MKIII owners when running higher than stock boost. Now according to a performance article I have they use this on the MKIV in the US, maybe a visit to the US Supra forums might yeild some info on this.

Fair enough if people are running high boost on stock bovs, then buy another stock one. My worry would be, why did it break in the first place.

As I say I have actually broken one running high boost on a MKIII Turbo, and you won't be able to tell when it goes. The only way to know is to take it off and do the blow through test, other than that you may feel slight turbo lag when changing gear. Or of course listen to hear if it's not making a dumping woosh sound.

I think they are worth spending some cash on, this is a quote from a Lotus owner.

The Lotus Esprit does not come fitted with a Dump Valve for the turbo. This is unusual because, especially in high boost applications, the back pressure caused by lifting off the throttle can cause the compressor of the turbo to stall. In extreme cases, the compressor can actually shatter.

After a dump valve is fitted, you will notice an immediate change in feel to the car, especially after changing gear. This is because the turbo is kept spinning during closed-throttle conditions and is therefore able to provide full-boost quicker.

Do some research on the SAAB bov though that might be a cheaper option, it's been well tested with the MKIII and holds up better than the stock MKIII Bov, which incidently looks exactly the same as the MKIV Bov, can't confirm if they are one and the same though.

would it be worth going for a twin stock bov mod like on mk4.com

my blitz one started leaking so put stock one back in and dont fancy paying £300+ for another bov.

suppose there will be lots of stock bovs going cheap as lots of people going for whoosh whoosh bovs

Don't happen to have a link to that mk4.com page do you?

here you go

http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/twin_stock_bov/index.html

chris wilson advises about keeping stock bov instead of aftermarket bovs.

the hks ssqv is only supposed to be good for up to 500bhp

the racing hks bov is good for 800bhp

dont know anything about them. i went with they sales talk and bought a blitz one, mine started leaking and making a sort of whistle sound, thought it was the torque convertor. chris found the problem. he was saying you get lots of bovs leaking. put stock one back on. never tried to tighten screw on blitz bov.

have a read on the link i posted
