Did the driving scare the sh.. out of you? Some folk I've spoken to reckon the Italians are all mad on the roads.

We didn't go in the end as the car needs a bit of work before I trust her on a long journey. :( Gonna try the drive down next May instead. :)

C'mon, tell all. Where did you go? - places to see?

Their highway code = there are no rules.

It's not just the way they drive but they just don't bother with crash barriers. They look like crash barriers but we drove past a 'gap' in a motorway crash barrier where a car hat obviously hit it and just gone straight through it and over the edge, which is bad given it was a bridge.

They were doing roadworks on the A1 (motorway again) and one side had a lane closed to allow the other direction of traffic to have a lane in, all there was dividing the traffic was stick on push over cones, they are about 1.5 foot and stick to the road and if you drive over them they bend over. No speed restrictions, so motorway traffic going in different directions on the same piece of road.

Also the roads are so narrow, even the (very well maintained)motorways have narrow lanes so I'm very glad I didn't take the supe!!

They just don't care about cars like we do here, 4 out of 5 cars has scrapes/knocks etc.

But anyway, depending on whereabouts you are based, Lucca, Citta di castello, Cortona, Pisa, Perugia amoungst others are well worth a visit. Didn't like Rome but I suspect if you flew in then did the touristy bit it would be ok. Leaning tower of Pisa is just insane. You do have to see it to believe it!

Eat pizza (sausage and spinach is yummy), nocciola (nut) ice cream, ravioli with burro a salvia (butter and sage) OMG delicious.
