michael
One that probably won't make the headlines due to it being in my sleepy little area but it's still very annoying. http://www.thisisbradford.co.uk/news/tibnews/display.var.921415.0.105mph_police_officer_escapes_ban.php

SimonB
TBH I'd expect anyone that has to drive for work would get that penalty.
Feakins
Yeah sounds fair enough to me. I'm surprised the police didn't let him off at the time tho.

matt k
Police officers in an unmarked police car stopped him after clocking up the speed while he was overtaking. Troake said he had been overtaking a driver who was on a mobile phone and driving erratically. Must remember that one!
Kranz
And no one on this forum has ever exceeded the speed limit by a fair margin.... i.e. over 77 mph in a 70 which is the ACPO recommended limit for prosecution??? I *may* have done

Thats not the point, the point is if we had like most others on the road we'd have the book thrown at us and not pampered because they're a cop. Kranz
I wouldn't say 6 points and £250 is pampered. Its half a licence and quite a bit of cash. Police have to be seen as whiter than white, never puting a foot wrong or making a mistake at work or in their personal lives..... Be at the beck and call of the public and pamper to their every whim while taking constant physical and verbal abuse. Getting multiple formal complaints from "the salt of the earth" that lead to disciplinary hearings just because some crim wants to get off sott free by accusing the officer of whatever they fancy. In the police you're actually guilty until proven innocent! The public perception is very wrong, but there again so is society. I agree it was wrong for the officer to speed. Its wrong for anyone to speed but everyone will continue to do it. Why should an off duty officer be treated any differently & lose their job because of a speeding conviction. Most people at that speed would not loose their licence.
Bobbeh
Sorry m8, but for most people 100+ on the M1 would mean instant ban.. but 105 on a 60 (A/B road) doesnt? Dont make me laugh.
Darren-K
reading the news like this honestly makes me personaly want to go out,. and sign up for every single form of advanced driving there has ever been,. so much so that i would legally be a better driver than any police officer., then... go out and drive down a few motor ways doing 110-150 mph., when they take me to court ill prove im a more qualified driver than any police officer in the country and point out the recent cases involving the so called advanced police drivers. skilled driving isnt and shouldnt be LTD to just the police,. if they can do it, i can. after all the police are not above the law
Kranz
Each case is taken on its merits, so I'm told. Magistrates are normally fairly reasoned people and its more down to the qualiy of the legal advice you employ more than the offence. Its amazing what a top barrister can do to get people off. We may have to agree to disagree on this one
michael
The road in question is a regular haunt for the traffic police, it's such an easy target for them. Miles and miles of twisty country road, most of which have been robbed of their old overtaking spots by recent solid whites, then all of a sudden you find yourself on a huge straight road with a shared overtaking lane - finally you can pass the 100m long line of tractors, caravans and old fools to make your way again.... the police know this so they hide and get people as they overtake, usually in safety, before they reach the next 20 miles of twisty annoyance. 105 on there isn't a big deal, it has good visibility and is generally quiet, however if it had been me or you I suspect the outcome would have been different, especially given what a bunch of assclowns the police are up there (they have got me twice now, both times on the A65, once was a complete work of fiction, the other was petty). Anyway it beats talking about religion
michael
BBC news have just picked up on this, lets see if it causes a backlash.... Snooze
How about this take on it then: What do you think he should have done having been let off? Should he have said, "No - I was caught, fair and square - ban me like the law suggests." Would you do the same thing if they just let you off with a warning? If you got stopped doing 105mph and they offered to let you off, you'd say "No"? I think not. There IS a law, there IS a rule. 70mph is the speed limit on the motorway. Anything above that is a CRIME. It's just sometimes the person who gets caught gets let off with a lesser penalty. Sometimes that person is a policeman, sometimes they're not. A friend of mine got clocked at 102mph once - in court, they gave him 6 points and a fine..... and he's NOT a policeman....
Kranz
Absolutely right Snooze.... apart from the crime bit, its an offence A friend of mine got caught doing 146 on the A1. Got a ban & big fine. When he got his licence back he got caught on the same stretch doing 154!! His defence in court was that he didn' see the police car; which is true as he's half blind

Gord R
Found this out last week from one of our customers... And to be quite blunt its a total f*cking disgrace... Reason why... i travel on the Settle by pass twice a day 6 days a week ( i work in settle)... and the amount of greif i get is untrue.. ..the main reason being we run numerous quick japanese performance cars.. even thought i never exceed the speed limit on that stretch as i know that there are 3 unmarked cars that patrol the bypass. one being a brand new scoob... So to find out that 105mph is an acceptable offence , i think illpop out and give the car a good blast! .... and for them to say its one of the worst roads in the Uk in that artice thats a joke too... for those who know the road micheal im sure you do.. then im sure you will agree with me that the road is rather good in my opinion.. certainly when the 40mph dickhead brigade arnt out in force.. ....anyway rant over... Wait till i have one of the coppers in the shop!
Gord R
Also.. Infairness.. i dont think 105 is unsafe on that stretch.. if its quiet.. im sure 180+ in the supra would be ok..not that iv ever tried ... but its the principal of it all really.. michael
I've hit the limiter in a Bentley Continental R on there but if I got caught I'd expect a ban Unless it was PC Spence, he'd probably get me hanged or something... Grrr
Gord R
Haha... without a doubt mate!! But oh if only they know how we used to drive that road all those years back when we used to be on our way to harewood hillclimb.. we would have been slaughtered! Its the bikers that set all these problems off it you ask me.. they never used to have unmarked plice cars
