Islamic reactions

Underworld

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking why oh why does the pope say a remark to infuriate allready rowdy portions of Muslims around the world? It seems to me that either Muslims are getting far more press coverage and hence their reactions are far more visible in media or they are getting far more verbal in their thoughts.

I wonder where we are going in the future with religion and world stability?

I personally think as a whole the western world is non religious (excluding people coming into the area), against that of the middle east which is heavily religious.

What the Pope said was not incorrect, but one-sided nonetheless.

He should keep his mouth shut in my opinion, gone are the times where his words were the definition of 'truth'

On the other hand, it is a high-profile political appointment that he's got, and at that level very rarely gaffes are what they seem.:sly:

personally, i think the Pope should think before he speaks on a subject that is going to start controversy. just because he is in the position he is, surely he should have given more thought on the aftermath of his comments. and i would say this about Archbishop of Canterbury/York etc, not just Catholicism.

it's old text what the pope was citing. not really relevant to today, imo. maybe the Vatican can go through their 'inquisition' files, and see how their past history was, before igniting the fires again against other religions.

the West has a habit of forgetting what it has done in the name of religion in the past, the Crusades being a prime example, also what went on in this country in the 16th/17th centuries, burning people on someone's word that they were a witch. many other gruesome things done in name of religion.

i wouldn't say the West is non-religious, the largest country, USA, is heavily religious in the Deep South and even swung the US Presidential elections due to the 'bible vote' for Bush, due to his religous beliefs. they thought they would get something back, in stopping the liberalisation in the USA, by electing a religious President.

the problem is the people that hi-jack religion for their own ends, and don't really care about what happens, just the power. don't fancy getting sued so won't name anyone..

btw, i am not for one religion (though from birth have been CofE), i try to understand other religions as it gives me a better perspective on other cultures :D

the bigger problem than religion are the different cultures around the world.

this sentence will be a bit of a generalisation, but, in the West we are more status, money and power orientated. in the Far East (especially East Asia - China, Japan, etc), they are more family orientated first, the other stuff follows. that's why in Japan/China it is not uncommon to see many generations living in same house, right up to Grand Parents.

The Catholic church can write their history in the way they see it (not necessairly facts), same as Japan wrote it's own history of WW2, and left a lot of facts out, about what it had done.

well spotted, yes, Canada is the largest from a land mass viewpoint :)

but, thread was about people, so looking at it from a population way. i know india has greater population, but that's asian sub-continent. also didn't include central/south america due to differing religions.

would love to be back in BC atm, perfect time of year to go glacier walking :D

Its massive overeaction and I agree with you about the press covereage, it seems everything in the news these days revolves around muslims and nothing else.

The problem with Islam is that its anti-Islamic to critisise the religion or Allah in anyway, so for someone else doing it (freedom of speech) theres an obvious uproar.

i don't agree with the statement about the uproar - i think it's justified... its an insult after all - there is freedom of speech and then theres inciting hatred (a criminal act?). As for the media - the "bad guys" as a headline always sell papers ... reguardless of whats true and whats not :(

i'm going to "try" and stay off this topic :p

Any excuse for them lot to moan and go on the rampage they grab it with both hands !!!!

Not the greatest thing the Pope has ever done but hardly worth the fuss I think.

Would ENGLAND be up in arms if someone said an equivalent remark ? I like to think we're better than that.

Look at the disgusting behaviour after the 'Cartoon' incident - Germany doesn't start WW3 when the piss is ripped out of Hitler because he was a dick - in fact they have their own humour at him.

I think we should just sit back and wait for it to kick off coz it's gonna and we all know it regardless of what England does now - it's too late and the hate is there in 90% of the population I think.
