Chris Wilson
2 litre 4 cylinder on a Superflow dyno, from a daily driver, and you can also see why cheap tubular turbo manifolds crack as the heat is insane. http://gatesgarth.com/volvo_dyno/dyno_pull.mpg
Class One
I couldn't quite see the dyno chart clearly but what rpm did they run it to? Sounded mental, were they testing it to distruction?

RobSheffield
I like that a lot...what was the uncharacteristic whining sound? sounded like a S/C
Bobbeh
Yeah, sounded like a Civic and looked like a tea kettle with all the smoke/steam coming from it! Nice figures for a 2.0 but I've seen Busas putting out more power
Chris Wilson
Revs to about 7500, not a lot, some rev to 10,000, but they are race ones. The noise is just the turbo, they sound really loud in a dyno cell. Only thing I don't like is the way the ancillary drive belt flaps about, it needs an idler pulley, the harmonics damage whatever it's driving. It's things like that you can see, alter and fix so easily on an engine dyno.
Pig
Good effort. love the heated up manifold! Is that what happens to ours?

Chris Wilson
I'm winding you lot up, it's actually something very trick, it's a twin charged engine, it runs a supercharger for off idle boost, and a turbo to fill in the top end, there's a pic of the installed engine at http://gatesgarth.com/volvo_dyno/volvo_twincharged.jpg I had another video showing the s/charger install better, but I can't find it. The square box is the valve to stop the SC bleeding air across the turbo until tyhe turbo is making enough boost to exceed the S/C output. I did have a link to the guys who built this fabulous things web site, but as usual I can't find that now.
Bobbeh
That should make it very responsive, what sort of does it belong to? Some street racing Volvo or is it to be imported into something else?
Chris Wilson
Here's all the bumph, I posted this link ages ago, but well worth looking at if you appreciate STUNNING build quality, welding and machining. Puts LOTS of professionals to shame! http://www.hilmersson-racing.com/start.asp?show=j Videos: http://www.hilmersson-racing.com/start.asp?show=ec __________________
Chris Wilson
Good effort. love the heated up manifold! Is that what happens to ours? Yes, here's an internal wastegate turbo on a cast iron manifold, on a dyno.
