scooby_doo_do
Right - i've been off for a while - so heres the latest update and pics: http://www.tripkings.co.uk/humber (Currently uploading so try back in a while) I've Spent all day having the front tyres changed, filling her up with fuel (for the first time), sanding, filling, and spraying the car.............. I've even managed a little video of my friend driving it off to Hertford - to give it a run as the longest we've been is only 5 miles or so. http://www.tripkings.co.uk/rod3.avi (11mb) It most certainly get's some looks! So we have a week till we are off to Le Mans in it (Camping in Expo) so hopefully if it passes the next week of road tests we shall be taking it! Whoohooo. Anyone got any tips for trying to paint flames? or does anyone fancy doing it?..hehe

scooby_doo_do
thanks for the comments guys. The car's only got a mirror on the drivers side - it did have a rear view mirror but that fell off - so not had a chance to put back on. it sounds a little naff at the moment becuase the exhaust baffles are still in place - when they come out, it'll sound like a spitfire once again ;-) I'm happy to report, that it made to Hertford, with no leaks or spills. It's going on a 100 mile trip tommorrow to see how it gets on.

scooby_doo_do
well, my freind had some trouble in it this morning... He sadi he was unable to get it in gear, he only managed to do so, by turning the engine off and then selecting first and starting the car... Not very good on the car. But he said trying to get it into 1st,2nd and 3rd was next to impossible and kept on crunching. To top this all off, the battery terminal came off and the car cut out on the A10 roundabout. (Made me laugh as i told him to check these!) So not too sure, what the issue is with the car at the moment, could be the clutch or could be the gearbox... :-(
Kranz
Probably the clutch. On my Westfield Seight (Rover V8 engine) I had the clutch actuation fork fall apart, which first felt like a partially operating clutch and then it failed altogether. IIRC there is a problem with using clutch master cylinders that allow the clutch slave cylinder to throw out too far. This causes the release fork to travel too far and one of the square bits that sits on the release fork pegs (and slide in the release bearing carrier) falls off! The clutch is then only actuated by one side of the fork, which then bends and leaves you with no clutch or no drive depending on where it finally jams up. If its the clutch its a gearbox off job and a fiddle to put it all back, then an adjustment of the clutch throw to stop it happening again. It could just be a crudded up slave cylinder, or a master cylinder with a knackered seal. My Westy has had both of these due to lack of use. I can let you know where to get each part very cheap (£15ish). If its the box??? I have a spare 5 speed Rover LT77 box in the garage

Thorin
I thought I'd like the matte black... but on seeing it, yes it looks cool, but I reckon it would look better with a proper paint job.

scooby_doo_do
Oh well, Mr Clutch just phoned and said it's def the clutch, however it will take them 3 days to do as the engine has to come out :-( £600.... But can't get it done for Monday night - so it ain't going to Le Mans. So we're having a re-think and may decide to stick an auto box in it in a few months time.
