steb9780
On picture 7 you'll see the engine - any idea what the 4 metal twisty things are on the rocker covers? They seem to be holding it on. there's 4 on each side. I believe they are quick release cam cover fasteners

SteamAhead
Scooby - Thought I'd be a pain and open the thread up again to find out how the humber is going . Last we heard you was going to have some welding done..... any joy? Been able to do much else with the humber?
scooby_doo_do
lol, no problem.. It was picked up a 2 weeks ago, and i personally drove it out of the rear of the house and on to the trailer. It sounded gourgous. But, then the chap told me it was only firing on 3 or the 8 (Touched the exhaust manifolds and checked for heat). After some playing about we found that it was due to mainly the leads and plugs -We've ordered up a new set of plugs and leads and these are waiting to be fitted. I've also been contacted by the owner from 98-02 and his dad who owned the car in 82-86. They have both told me quite a bit about the car. The engine for instance has come out of a police car (Uprated cams etc) and had done 26k from new in 98. So we believe the engine has done less than 35k. So, the welder has currently got the car, and is making up the rear roll cage, exhausts, brake pipes and tidying all the underneath up and rust holes etc. He's arranging for the car to be rewired as well as it should be a very easy job as the car's empty and everything is accsesable (bad spelling). I'm due to go over there this Sat to take some pictures and pick up the wheels so i can send them off to get polished/chromed/painted (Undicided as yet). We have found that they are lightweight magnesium wolfrace things. Also - as i'm there we are going to measure up the inside so we can order some seats and subframes (Either recliners or fixed if there's room). As the car is a 63, it doesn't require seatbelts but we would prefer to have them but unfortunalty there is no place to mount them - hence the rear roll cage. So there it is for the minute. The welder beleives he will need the car for a few weeks as he's doing it all after hours and at the weekends. I've got a website nearly ready for pics and information about the car - once its ready i'll post it up. Thanks again for your interest guys ;-) Craig. SteamAhead
Glad to hear everything is going nice and steady. Such a great find and wonderful project, good idea getting the wiring done while it's stripped out as well. Looking forward to the website. Hope you know there is already a big queue for the spin when it's finished

scooby_doo_do
Right, hopefully i'll have a website for the car fixed by tommorrow night. Spoke to the Wellder and he's bought new plugs and leads for the car. The other leads were all in the wrong place/setup. He said its now so loud that he daren't rev it for fear of breaking windows, but it sounds lovely, and runs very smoothly. He's started to make up the various parts (sills etc) but he's told me he's going to have to make the exhaust and mufflers first as its just too loud. I've arranged to go over there some time this weekend to take some pics and hear it start up :-) I'll also be measuring up for some seats and subframes. I've sourced a new fuel tank, front chrome grill and a bonnet pull and cable so that will be fitted at some point as well. And thats the update over again for the minute ;-) Craig,. scooby_doo_do
lol.. not quite.. This is the current car http://www.tripkings.co.uk/images/hum5.jpg and it the bonnet grill should look something like this http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.rootes-chrysler.co.uk/images/cotm200410_01.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.rootes-chrysler.co.uk/cotm/cotm200410f.htm&h=396&w=600&sz=93&hl=en&start=4&tbnid=OMn65Jv2ojz45M:&tbnh=89&tbnw=135&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dhumber%2Bsceptre%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26safe%3Doff
supra dan
gonna look mean when its done, the guy whos fixing it sounds like he knows his stuff. can i buy it when you get bored of it?
scooby_doo_do
I think this one may be for keeps ;-) Not sure what it'll be worth once we've done it up, Hopefully more than we've spent but if not we don't care too much - just a bit of fun really. We set ourselfs a budget of 3k. Thats for the re-wire, engine, spraying, welding, undersealing, brakes, interior,etc... The welder's charging us £700 for all the works which is extremly cheap considering he's making up all the parts himself (exhausts, sils, brakes etc) and putting a roll cage in it for us. supra dan
sounds like a bargain. i think you could do with this also http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Offenhauser-Dual-Plane-manifold-Rover-V8-Nitrous_W0QQitemZ270047422808QQihZ017QQcategoryZ72205QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
scooby_doo_do
Went over to see the car on Sunday running on all 8... Now its stupid loud.. I love it. Its seems the rust is worse than we first thought - but the chap seems to think he can do it all before christmas - These pictures show the worse of it. - The welder reminds me of american choppers chaps. His garage at his house is full of hidden treasures. He even has a original 1950's vespa sitting in the corner. These pics are large as haven't had time to resize them. http://www.tripkings.co.uk/images/hum11.jpg http://www.tripkings.co.uk/images/hum12.jpg http://www.tripkings.co.uk/images/hum13.jpg http://www.tripkings.co.uk/images/hum14.jpg http://www.tripkings.co.uk/images/hum15.jpg http://www.tripkings.co.uk/images/hum16.jpg http://www.tripkings.co.uk/images/hum17.jpg I've been extemly lazy and not as yet done the website ;-(
