scooby_doo_do
No problem bud.. Just spoken to my local mechanic who's given me the number of a welder/sprayer who does it as a hobbie. Aparently he's really into hotrods but has never restored one before. So he's very interested in doing some of the work for me for cheapo :-). and the best thing is he only lives up the road from me. scooby_doo_do
Well i had the welder/painter come round last night, and he confirmed that it most certainly needs some welding, but is very do-able. He's told me its going to need a new drivers side seal, and a section of the chassis has corroded to excess on the passenger side (So he said he'll have to cut that out and replace). He said once he gets it to his house he will sand blast the underneath and then replace all the bad metal and holes should he find any - then he will underseal it. So thats the welding. As for the bodywork he suggests that rather than a complete strip down to metal which would be very costly with the amount of fibre glass on the car - he suggests a quick rub down and then respray. The only trouble with that he told me was that the paint job wouldn't last as long. I'm hopefully getting a replacement battery on Saturday and starting the engine up :-)

scooby_doo_do
lo. Well the chap also pointed out that the engine has some Twin Weber 38 dgas (I think thats what he said anyway) and the engine is a Rover SDI. Just bought a K&N Pancake for it, but we are going to polish up the engine first.
scooby_doo_do
Purchased a new battery today.. Changed the oil and filter, topped up the water and thought we'd try and start the engine. First of all we Unclipped the spark leads and tried to turn the engine over as the car hasn't started for over 2 years. Everything seemed to work ok. Plugged back on the leads and replaced the petrol. Then stuck some fuel in the carbs. Took a deep breath as the key went into the ignition and turned.... It sounded like hell itself had arrived. The engine started on the first time with some help of the throttle. And MY GOD..... The noise this thing kicks out is outragous. All my neightbours were lookng out the windows, the police station were having a good look as well. The engine sounds as though its running sound and after about 25 seconds it settled down to a very rumbly grunting sound. The sound reminds me of sitting above the pits in le mans as the cars are coming in to pit. So now we know the engine works and my god is it loud! It sounds awsome :-) I just want to go out and drive it!

Kranz
The 38 DGAS weber carb was used (in single quantities) on the Capr 3.0 V6. Its a good performance carb, two will be more than enough for your requirements I bet it sounds like my Westy V8....."Sounds like thunder, goes like lightning"! scooby_doo_do
Well, not too sure how it goes yet.. The most i have tried is light 1st wheel movement and reverse as the brakes don't work. Here's a vid of us starting it.. But it doesn't sound anything like what it does in real life.. Much noiser... http://www.tripkings.co.uk/downs/rod.avi
