I'll get it all out and take a pic for yout later - But i am determined to do something on the car myself rather than pay someone to do it. scooby_doo_do
Ok this is a little confusing... The red and black wires go where? http://www.tripkings.co.uk/images/loom.jpg Just laid it out on the floor and going over it with a labeller to make it a little easier when its in the car.. scooby_doo_do
Updated web pics http://www.tripkings.co.uk/humber/ Spent all day Friday re-wiring the car. I cut out the original loom and burnt out wires and started to fit the new loom. Started at 7:30am and worked through to 6pm. All thats left is the interior switches/dash dials. The only other item we can't figure out is the starter motor wiring and the Ballast Resistor or Ignition amplifier (We're guessing at what this is) Its in the last pics. At a guess have another 1/2 a day wiring and some tidying up to get done. We then just have to check the lights are connected correctly as we had to guess on the which ones were the full beam/dipped/sidelights. Thanks. DamanC
I love this thread Its great that you can buy new looms!
scooby_doo_do
yeah, this one is a universal loom from Premier Wiring. Cost £130 including crimps, shrink wrap, connectors etc. Full telephone support and instructions. The chap told us we could fit it in a weekend and we've done a fair bit in one day so he's quite realistic. The main problem we had was taking the old loom out and tracing wires as most of them had fused/burnt together. Took me a good 2 1/2 hours to get it out whilst my co-purchaser wired up the front lights.
scooby_doo_do
Update: After a feature in the National street times i've had contact from a few people, and managed to get hold of the original owner who carried out the roof chop. Just waiting on him to send me some pics of it when it was black with flames ;-) and some video's of it doing burnouts and dragging. In the meantime, here are some more photo's of it from a previous life (Cromer 1988) http://www.tripkings.co.uk/humber/large/0090.jpg http://www.tripkings.co.uk/humber/large/0091.jpg http://www.tripkings.co.uk/humber/large/0092.jpg To make things even stranger - I've since found out that the kid in the passenger seat of the above pictures was aged 11 at the time and he purchased the car a 10 years later and was the last person to get it back on the road before selling it in 2001. We've done a fair bit opf the electrics but have resulted in calling an autoelctrician to finish it off as we are a little stuck at some bits. He is due to do the work on the Tuesday after easter. And then we are off to the MOT :-) Game on.
scooby_doo_do
Had the electrician round all day yesterday and he's round today finishing off the wiring for us ready for an MOT. Bit of a mess at the mo http://www.tripkings.co.uk/humber/large/0106.jpg Then i decided to start to sand down all the bubbled up paint and see what was hidden. There's the top blue layer, then a very powedery white layer followed by a nice red colour some more primer and then the metal work. most of the bubbled up paint there's nothing wrong with the metal but the primer seemed to have lifted. http://www.tripkings.co.uk/humber/large/0105.jpg http://www.tripkings.co.uk/humber/large/0101.jpg http://www.tripkings.co.uk/humber/large/0111.jpg I've managed to rebuild the gaps between the rear arches after the welder cut them out, but i just need to smooth them all off now and tidy it up a little. Before: http://www.tripkings.co.uk/humber/large/0061.jpg After : http://www.tripkings.co.uk/humber/large/0108.jpg The worst rust is seen on the above picture bottom corner of door. I'm unsure what to do about this as its right through, so i may need to go to the welders to get him to cut out and replace it. Apart from that, we're carpetting it this weekend and priming it hopefully :-) http://www.tripkings.co.uk/humber
