Help, severe loss of power!

Recommended Posts

Dude and Paul,

You know I appreciate it!!

ermm...where was I.....oh yeah, plugs....

I've just changed the plugs for a set of cheap ones the same again until I can get some decent ones. This seems to have made the hesitation go away.

There does seem to be some 'lumpy acceleration' at about 130 leptons in 5th still though - and the boost seems to fluctuate slightly.

I did set the plugs to 0.8mm by accident though!! so it could be that! I'll set them back to 1.1 tomorrow.

Heres a pic of one of the old plugs. it looks fine to me so I'm not sure why they were causing a problem??

Paul.

Hello,

Yes, the oil was cleaned out.

There seems to be no oil use at all.

I'm wondering if I need a new K&N mesh filter?? When I was in the engine bay I reved the engine a bit and there seemed to be a sucking noise from the filter, followed by a slight hesitation and the the revs went up.

I took the filter off and this seemed to resolve it?

Could the fuel filter cause the engine to lose power at high speeds? As I say, it was fine until about 130 leptons.

Hope you get it running properly soon fella.

I read it before you edited it!! :D

You can still help out though mate! I need as much help as I can!!

Is this still going on??

No offence to either of the parties involve in this comment as I have no issues with either, but people want an answer to a problem, this is what this BBS is for, can we get over small differences from a past thread etc and give the boy some answers. Again, I am not aiming this at either parties, but come on, this is a board for questions and answers, if you have grievances (SP) then use PMs or email - nobody likes to air dirty laundry in public. And now  and continue.

Answer- pay your money, ghet better plugs, I paid nearly £100 on new plugs and they are quite happy at 1.25bar.

This is the issue, I don't have a problem with anyone but if I say anything in any thread where the other party has an interest I receive sarcastic / nasty replies - I'm being forced to stay silent or moderate myself so that my replies are considered "acceptable" by the company involved, this can't be the way forward on a supposedly public forum can it?

Regardless of who was involved I'd post the same thing but the opinion of the other person is that I have some kind of vendetta against them - this honestly isn't the case!

Michael, as I said, it was not aimed "directly" at either of the parties. Personally I have no problem with either of them. But if it is starting to impose on another thread then it needs to be sorted off of the board. If I was a moderator then I may be tempted to delete some posts, but I'm not and just want the board to "get along" even if things have gone wrong in a previous deal.

Please nobody take my rantings as personal attacks, but more a "keep the peace" statement.

Agreed, as far as I was concerned there was a clean slate following any earlier concerns... it seems it's been tarnished again though.

Like you I just want harmony and in this thread for Paul R to receive the help to get his car issues resolved asap so he can enjoy it again. However this doesn't seem to be possible so from now on I'll be more selective with the threads I'm allowed to post to - hopefully that will help matters even if does mean I'm missing out.

I'm not disagreeing that more expensive plugs will be better, but I need to find out if it is the plugs first! no point waisting 100 quid on plugs for nothing!

I had iridium plugs in the car in the first place you see!

I want to see where you were going with your line of questioning. What do you think of the pic of the plugs?

Best to post a pic of "all" the plugs, as remember each plug tells a different story.

Ben..

P.S. It only takes 1 cylinder to melt a piston.

It's hard to see exactly the condition of the plug from the pic but it looks to be fairly healthy to me - maybe a bit 'white' on the electrode which from my limited experience it can mean that the plug is being fouled due to a little bit of burnt oil, often caused by the oil viscosity of it being a little low and allowing small amounts though the valve seats or piston rings - alternatively the plugs might just be past it or the flash on the camera could be hiding the real colour :)

Some light coloured deposits are perfectly normal but I was wondering if the plugs were going to be black due to them not being a low enough heat range or due to an A/F issue.

Is there a chance that the K&N is over oiled? Maybe give it a proper clean and a light oiling to see if that helps - I've heard a few tales where oil from filters of that type has made it's way into the engine and coated things it shouldn't - remember the old MR2 thread where the Toyota dealership covered that guys non-oil Apexi in WD40? ;)

How does the car run when it's cold - does the problem seem more apparent once it's up to temp or has been driven for a while?

I have a set of fairly new standard plugs in the house *somewhere* - if I can find them you are welcome to give them a go to see if they help - alternatively there are a lot of cheap Denso IK's up for grabs on here at the moment....

Oh no here comes the backup team....

I purposefully avoided mentioning the source of the car and said the "supplier" so as to avoid being seen to be dragging old issues up, I was trying to be tactful, trying to be professional and trying to offer unbiased advice to a guy with an issue.

The thing you and Paul overlook here is that I *was* miffed with the battery cover issue, note the work *was* - as I've said to Paul E in private it's forgotten, I've offered a virtual handshake, it's sorted, I've moved on - obviously you two can't do this and want to drag it on though - so why is this my problem?

And what the f*ck is the "little boy" comment supposed to mean and why all the aggression? What's the deal now are you threatening me into silence now - FFS this is getting pathetic!

Double standards once again, someone is allowed to "twak" me and I'm supposed to just sit back and 'take it' like a good "little boy" - my lighthearted reply was obviously taken far too seriously.

This is a technical thread and Paul needs help to fix his problem, if you want to patronise me and pull me to pieces to make me look silly they open a thread in Chit Chat or something....

The K&N doesnt seem very oily at all really - so I dont think it's that.

The car seems the same when it's hot or cold....but mostly seems to be affected when traveling at high speed! :D

I've got some plugs on order mate.....just got these cheap ones to try them out!

Ben..

Hi,

There are no fueling mods as far as I know!

Ben..

Your right mate. I hadnt noticed that!!

I didnt keep them in order so I'm not sure. Could this be a fault in one of the coil packs no firing the plugs properly???
