MR.B
I wouldn't have thought 2005 would work anyway. I think they expire at the end of each year?

carl0s
FFS do the right thing and remove it completely. NOD32 works well and comes highly recommended. I can do the license via Paypal. It has got to the point where I have started snapping pictures of Windows XP Task Manager process lists, sorted by CPU %, with CC*, N*, NAV*, MC* etc. sitting right at the top of peoples computers. It's beyond a joke. McAfee seems to be the worst in its current incarnation.
terribleturner
Im a Wannado customer, but my Norton DON'TWANNADO Anyway.................. It worked fine before i reloaded my OS but now wont let me connect to the net if it's working. When i bought a laptop back in 2004 PC World conned me into buying a copy of Norton AV 04. They failed to mention it was already installed on the laptop. Thought i would install it for now seeing as i already had it.
MR.B
i have a brand new copy of 04 sat here i bought ages ago (2 years ) Bin that then that's no good lol Wha? When the end of the year is nearly up it keeps giving you reminders that the software is about to expire. If you're still running it after the said date then it doesn't work - not that it works well anyway

Jake
NOD32 is antivirus - you want a software firewall, right? Or both?
carl0s
NOD32 is antivirus - you want a software firewall, right? Well, I presume like most, he wants antivirus, anti spyware & general anti-malware, and has opted for Norton Internet Security, which happens to include a firewall... which he doesn't need. Windows XP's firewall is more than adequate, and NOD32 does the job of keeping unwanted wares out.
terribleturner
Ok, so delete Norton altogether and use just windows firewall and this NOD32. What's the subscription price for the NOD??
Jake
I use Avast Home Edition for anti-virus. It's free and pretty damn good IMO You have to register with them but they don't spam you or owt.
carl0s
Ok, so delete Norton altogether and use just windows firewall and this NOD32. What's the subscription price for the NOD?? £23 + vat for first year. £14 + vat to renew the next year. in more detail: http://www2.css-networks.com/nod.JPG You can buy direct from nod32uk.com , but if you want to buy via PayPal, you need to find a reseller who offers it.. such as myself. It's free and pretty damn good IMO You have to register with them but they don't spam you or owt. I have used this for some people, where I felt they wouldn't spend any money. It was a choice of either nothing, Avast, or AVG. The 60 day register thing is a problem though. Many people just forget, and the thing disables itself. It's certainly 'better' than McAfee or Norton, and particularly the AOL-Free McAfee, which all would be better classified as malware themselves. Noddy nod nod
carl0s
I know we have a McAfee pimp here somewhere, and I just hope he doesn't come along and offer his input It really is that bad.
how_supra
Well I have McAfee and have absolutely no problems with it.
Pete
Norton is shite. Use this - http://www.activevirusshield.com/antivirus/freeav/index.adp? It's free, works well and is based on FSecure which is a great package. I use Nod32 at home.
terribleturner
Well im using Avast at the moment and after numerous Norton scans it still found about 30 problems. And ssssoooo ffffaaarrrr touch wood, all is A OK
Thorin
Windows firewall (you should have a hardware firewall device as well IMO, most ADSL routers will have one of some sort even if it's just NAT that's good enough), Windows Defender for spyware, AVG Free or Avast for anti-virus. I don't see any reason to pay for software
terribleturner
HHhmmm, are you saying with the modem?? Where would i look for that??
Thorin
HHhmmm, are you saying with the modem?? Where would i look for that?? If you have a cheapo USB modem then it likely won't have anything like that. If you've a router (ie. you connect it to your PC via a network cable) then it may have.
