Pete
I asked one of my techies this one, and in typical techie fashion he came up with.... You didn't state that all the bulbs were switched off. What if one or more of them was already on? You're also assuming these are old-fashioned light bulbs, not low-power or fluorescent, which don't get hot. Also the question can't be answered. "Which switch activates the bulb?" - well, it can't be the one on the left as I don't even know if there is one on the left, they might all be above each other. If the question were "how can you tell which switch activates the bulb?" that would be better. With all this information missing, I'm inclined to add my own assumption to the scenario. I send someone else into the room, flick the switches one at a time, then enter the room and ask when it came on. Or I enter to set up a video camera or just my mobile phone to video the proceedings. Okay, it was a good bit of lateral thinking, but I still think it was worded badly.... David
peter richards
any one of the switches will turn on the light, as you say there are three light switches on the cube
tbourner
There are three words in the English language that end in -GRY. Two are HUNGRY and ANGRY. The third one everyone uses every day and knows what it stands for. If you listened carefully, I already told you what the word is. What is the third word? Think i might make this a regular thing like The Friday Joke. SOLUTION: "Language" There are 3 words in "The English Language", what is the 3rd word?? "Language". Its all about Misdirection. The 1st 2 sentences are just to mislead you into thinking the puzzle is about words ending in "GRY". What a crock, you didn't say "There are 3 words in "The English Language", ", you didn't have a comma, the sentence was a full statement claiming "There are three words in the English language that end in -GRY", and neither of the words that you claim to be the answer ("the", "English", and "language") in fact end in "GRY", so the solution is flawed. And as for the bulb, I'm with Pete's mate, too many variables!!
