Drink drivers hit my sisters parked car. Advice needed...

Shes going through her insurance to get it sorted. Can she expect the idiots insurance to pay out in full or will him be drinking make his insurance void and hence not cover any third party costs!

It depends on the insurers policies etc, My father was hit years ago but luckily not serious and it was a claim that his insurer had to pay but due to circumstances he did not loose his NCB as the other insurer advised why they did not pay out.

Edit: maybe im wrong then. I know my insurance company will pay out for the 3rd party

youll be able to claim damages thru courts when he/she is prosecuted - there insurance would be null & void.

He is still covered as far as your sisters car, even if drunk. They will pay out no probs, as long as he was insured in the first place

This will be covered by the Motor Insurance Bureau. She should make her claim to her insurance company and let them handle it. Thats why you pay them sh1t loads of money. There is no worry, won't affect her NCB or excess.

I grant you that, but as we are talking about damage to someone else's car not his, he is still insured, even though drunk, against damage to third parties. Damage hes caused to his own car is a different story.

Even though an (alleged) criminal act has occured, insured or not this type of event is covered by the Motor Insurers Bureau.

 

And as Ewen quite rightly states, he is still covered to third party liability even if he is pissed.
